Why do people hate on couples depending on the age gap? (1 Viewer)

As stated in the title, People tend to shit on couples with rather large age gaps. A prime example would be Momo and Heechul. Heechul being 38 (Korean age) 37 (int. age) and Momo being 24 (25 in Korean age). I find it somewhat weird but as long as they are happy then that all that ultimately matters. What do you guys think?

I think that there are two things that have to be taken in consideration:
a) age plays a big role in Korean culture (hierarchy, respect etc.)
b) maturity

sure maturity is something that is highly personal, I´m not judging Momo here or even anyone in particular, BUT when you picture an AVERAGE (please, don´t use the whole "but I´m not like that") 24-year-old and an average 38-year-old ... they are both somewhere else.
A 24-year-old is someone who might be freshly out of college, still unsure what she wants in life, starting a new job, finding a new flat, not knowing how to fix a broken sink.
A 38-year-old man might have had several serious (that´s important to note, several SERIOUS relationships) and might want a family (might even be in a bit of a hurry to have kids (and men have their biological clocks too) and is settled and is sure in his work.

Now, to be concrete I don´t know Momo, so it is hard to judge. She is obviously rich, independent and successful.
But despite his comic acts, Heechul seems like someone who is actually pretty settled down, intelligent and knows what he wants. He is quite serious when it comes to work, so I imagine he is not much of a fool when it comes to relationships either.
If they fit, they fit! The best to them and I hope they can make things work!
But I was simply trying to explain why some people might be sceptical. (hate would be a bit of a strong word)
Also the fact that idols are not supposed to date might be another thing.

Soyul and Moon Hee jul is a better example since there was a massive imbalance in career accomplishments and life experience.

People usually want relationship to be equal so of there is big age cap it can seem like one person is using another.

I think for some if not most people when they hear a large age gap there's a sense of distrust as people can use such an age gap to create a power imbalance with their partner and take advantage of that.

For Heechul and Momos example specifically though I think that how long Heechul has known Momo also made people uneasy even if she was an adult throughout the entirety I believe.

I see what you are saying with the power imbalance and being taken advantage of. There have been quite a lot of cases like that in America where, the age gap is really big and, it's usually the younger person who takes advantage and then leaves the older so high and dry and then airs out the dirty laundry to make the older person look bad.

I think for women in particular its cause it rings alarm bells for a lot of us. Like older women in my life always told me to beware of men like that because 1) the women their age know better than to bother with them or 2) they are fetishizing you for your age and how "gullible" you are to them. This isn't true for everyone but I think a lot of us were raised with warnings like that.

Also, there's the whole thing of when they met vs announced they were together. People tend to forget about grooming and how someone could meet a person at 16 and groom them to be open to dating them as soon as they are legal (if not already trying to get them to do stuff when they first meet). And I think that's another reason people will be more critical and untrusting of the older person.

For me its just awkward and weird depending on how wide the age gap is. If It's a tiny gap, I don't mind shipping the couple, if it's too wide... Get outta here
