Why does the U.S. prefer BLACKPINK over TWICE or Red Velvet? (1 Viewer)

I love all three of the big girl groups in KPop, but it seems that Western side of the world, prefers BLACKPINK over TWICE & Red Velvet
And the only time the West loves Red Velvet is when they do songs like "Bad Boy", "Automatic" etc.
But everyone loves BLACKPINK. Like I get why TWICE may not be everyone's cup of tea, I get that 9 members in a girl group is a bit much but all three of them TWICE, RV and BP have all debuted around the same time 2015-2016 around that area.
Despite TWICE & Red Velvet having bigger discographies and more frequent releases than BP, BP is still more beloved.

I think its just the style of music. Heavy beat drop and rap songs seem to be more popular in the west than a ballad or cutesy song or something along those lines.

Well you basically pointed it out, the west only loves the velvet side of Red Velvet and Twice has a cute concept which doesn't go down well and Blackpink have girl crush concept which does go down well.

Like others have stated, it’s the style of music. But where I live, Twice is very popular. JYP has definitely played it safe in terms of Twice’s promotion in the West.

Just the different style of sound Twice began with, now they may be getting more popular but BLACKPINK made it first through the last few years. I look forward to the day Twice gets as huge because their journey was crazy and they deserve it. P.S. I am in need of a European tour too!

Blackpink's music and concept has lot more western appeal, it's follows what is current and trendy in the west, it gives this powerful image. YGE does this on purpose and also promotes Blackpink in a west lot more than JYP and SM do their groups. I think Blackpink is pretty much perfect group for western appeal right now, you have badass concept, fluent english-speakers, edm music with rap..

Cute is not big thing here so that's most that Twice does, even their more mature songs like Fancy are rly cute. Twice is pretty much built to focus on East-Asia, especially Korea and Japan with their member choices.

Well western kpop fans like both sides of Red Velvet. Quirky and rnb sides can do good in west, there is artist who do stuff related to those, but I'm not sure if Red Velvet goes far enough with either so that it translates? Like lot of quirky stuff in the west is really dark or at least weird, and although Red Velvet has some murder in their videos at first glance they still look quite cute.

Personally it's the music style for me (and I do not even live in the west) and for Twice it's definitely the 9 members thing but I still like them tho.

well tbh, I think one of the big reasons why blackpink appeal more is because there are only 4 members, 3 of them being fluent in English and one of them being able to understand English. it's way easier to remember the faces of four girls instead of having to remember 9. their fluency in English helps them relate more to the gp and helps them communicate more to their international fans. also, the music that they make is inspired by the west, and it appeals more to the gp. they have amazing music videos, cool choreos and just a great vibe in general. tbh red velvet could be have somewhat of the same reaction if they were promoted more.

It really is all about the music and style. The west isn‘t into cute and bubble and quirky songs. It‘s unfortunate cause all of the girls from the three groups are super talented, fun and lovely.
