Why is it so hard to understand korean names? (1 Viewer)

So I was watching the final episode of Boys Planet and every time a member was called as a winner, I understood whatever, but then when I saw the spelling of the name on screen I was every time..

I don't understand, are they not saying the names, how can I misunderstand so badly every time? This is also a general issue I have and not related to Boys Planet or any specific incident, it just strongly reminded me of it once again

It took 20 years of watching anime and 2 college classes to get my listening skills to a useful level in japanese.

Sure.. but even names I know like Yujin, I was shocked when I saw it on screen after hearing whatever the announcer said

I find japanese names rather easy, they are also the only names I understand in korean too..

Now that I think about it I think Japanese names are easier because they follow a speach patter we're more used to with names. Their names are also longer which gives your brain more time to register them. They say a first name and a last name where Korean is broken up in to three short syllabils.

I think that may explain it Some languages are easier than others for speakers of certain languages to recognize also.

maybe yeah.. sometimes those 3 syillabils seem to just blend in with the rest of the what they say or they cut certain ones out, I can never tell. They also tend to say them incredibly fast

It may and yeah I just think I have not encountered a case before, where I struggled so hard to reconizse the names in a foreign language I heard a lot
