A lot of Americans hear 'China' and immediately aren't a fan. It's why a lot of Chinese trends (makeup styles for example) get called Korean or Japanese instead. Maybe this is also a reason for that

I’ve found a bunch of music on Spotify and some stuff on TikTok (mostly fan accounts tho)

it isn't spread as much as the hallyu wave...no gov support but heavily regulated
plus it's china so there's a stigma attached

I've honestly thought and asked myself this, and though I haven't researched I've made up hypothesises:

- China's soft power is just not big at all, there's no attraction to anybody who isn't familiar with chinese culture to actually indulge in it.
- They don't actually need to expand, they already got 1.4 billion people at home.

But the c-pop/ chinese pop culture landscape intrigues me so I'm gonna dig deep

They dont really care to advance out.
The government would prefer to push typically Chinese culture.
Although i have found it hilarious they say that with English lyrics in the songs...

For example i like pd 101 china for all of its many flaws but rocket girls had like no music.
all that came of it was some acting gigs and a smattering of solo stuff.
investing energy into the market seems a waste of time.

what everyone else has said about there being a stigma attached, and there's really no reason to market outside of china. the market is huge so promoting internationally wouldn't really change anything.
