Interesting. I always thought Japanese people would live healthier than Western people, because there are lower cancer rates in Japan (AFAIK one of the lowest rates worldwide?). Another myth busted?

Iirc there's a higher link between obesity and pre-mature death than smoking and cancer which would account for the differences. Smoking is bad and increases the risk of cancer tremendously, but it shouldn't be viewed in a if you smoke you'll get cancer. Japanese people in most other category (alongside Koreans, Taiwanese, Hong Kongers, Macanese, and Singaporeans) completely blow European and European offshoots (America, Australia, Brazil, etc.) out of the water on most other health metrics which should account for the differences.

Weed? The closest thing would be a skunk smell. It's not horrible personally, but you can tell if there's weed around. It's a distinct smell.
For me cigarettes are just nauseating.
also, skunks obviously smell much worse than weed

Vaping is bad for you sure but I don’t know if the smell from vaping is as bad as the smell from smoking and that’s really the only reason I would say no to smokers.

Yeah, I used to say no, but having lived in the UK and Japan where smoking is quite common, I don't care anymore. I have a preference for people who don't smoke, but if you do it doesn't bother me as long as your let me bum a cigarette off you once or twice a year when I'm drunk and decide I want to smoke one.

Everyone has a vice and you've just got to let people have it. I drink an absurdly high amount of diet soda daily, but I don't smoke more than 5 cigarettes annually or drink heavily. As long as you smoke outside, don't litter, or smoke in the car I don't have a problem.

But yeah after that I’ve had a preference towards people who don’t smoke. I can’t stand the smell anymore, I became noseblind to it for a while as our old house smelled like smoke 24/7. Clean air really does make a difference and it makes me wonder the affects I would have from second hand smoke exposure

Idk what to add anymore. Everyone's opinions are valid. Sorry if i didn't respond to some ppl, i saw it was a convo for me to not butt in. On the other hand a worker in our company just got diagnosed with late stage lung cancer :/ and yeah they were smokers. Idk about everyone but that made me hate cigarettes a little bit more today.
