According to the World Health Organization, child mortality rates have gone down drastically since ever recorded. This could be because of increase in proper medical treatement, but may also be a result of society's persistent attempts to end child labor. Whatever the reason may be, the changes have been drastic. For example, in just 1990, there were approximately 12.6 million deaths of children under the age of 5. In 2017, that number dropped down to 5.4 million (per the WHO; "15 000 every day compared with 34 000 in 1990. Since 1990, the global under-5 mortality rate has dropped by 58%, from 93 deaths per 1 000 live births in 1990 to 39 in 2017"). And this only includes deaths under the age of 5. Child mortality includes all ages under the age of 14, meaning that the change is much bigger than we expected. For child mortality rates to drop to it's lowest since all of recorded history is ground-breaking news, that should be celebrated worldwide. Hopefully, we continue our efforts to end this crisis, so that every child has the opportunity to make the best of it's life.
