I would say the main focus of the vid is why the super groups are not such a good idea (Vikki please don't punish me )

Honestly, I like them simply because it's a lot of talent in one spot. I feel like a lot of groups rely solely on visuals and dancing nowadays and not on being vocally strong and stable an dI hate that so fucking much. Nothing wrong with wanting to cling to vocals being important. Does SM give them crazy good songs? No. But oh well.

The challenge I have here is “what’s going wrong at SM.” The company has had some of its highest sales of all time over the past few years so while Kpop fans may say “oh SM has lost its way”, clearly there is a large and passionate fanbase who likes what they’re doing and is happy to put their money where their mouth is. There’s a difference between a company putting out stuff you like and whether or not it’s successful.

It also feels like a lot of the same arguments people trot out about “what’s going wrong” or complaints about the SMCU or still those old complaints around SuperM.

Kpop fans talk more about the SMCU than the amount it shows up in songs and videos where outside of aespa it’s just a Kwangya here and there. It’s very easy to drop into any of these groups and not even know there’s supposed to be lore or a universe

SuperM was still very very successful altho people act liked they weren’t. And more importantly I think from SM’s perspective, it introduced new fans to older groups. While the older fans might have hated it, the newer fans (sometimes NCTzens and sometimes people who came into NCT and these other groups through SuperM) fell in love with “Bacon” and “Mother Teresa-Min”.

Now if you want to talk about the piss poor management of scheduling all these groups or the missed marketing opportunities or delays on launches, I’m all ears and totally on board with that but IMO, this feels like the same tired rhetoric I see day in and day out.

SM is at a flux point. the stock holders finally managed to push lsm's company out of the music, because they want more of the profits.

LSM himself is looking to change directions after close to 3 decades.

Clearly what ever they are doing with NCT is working just fine.
4 albums in the top 13 last year

Super M has made money.
The legacy boy groups still have fans, concerts, and albums.
Red Velvet is RV they are going to ping all over them map and have hits, misses and mega hits.
Aespa is selling fine and have a nitch.

Got the beat did suffer . the song was... fans of the junior groups are pissed. But SM dropping an album seems to say they are committed to this.

Heck station is starting up again and i am not sure it has ever made money.

Whom ever runs SM does not think like random you tube person, And that is probably fine.

Sm made their bed when they took forever to debut Aespa and lost out on girls like Wonyoung, Chaewon and Yujin who chose mid tier agencies that would actually debut them in their life time.

We will have to see if the do anything with Haeun ect.

Yup and also cramming everything into the 4th quarter for a big finish for the shareholders and a boost into the soft first quarter, which has only gotten worse as they add more groups.

“Where they consistently promote singles and mini albums”-I feel like this is intended to imply that they release lower effort forms of media (because fewer songs/time and effort needed for the “comeback”). But it’s also plain incorrect. Out of 2 releases, one of SuperMs was a mini, and one was a full album (with more songs than most kpop full albums I believe, I see a lot of full albums with 9-12 songs. Super One has 15).
Saying that there’s no benefits for the idols and no longevity and whatnot is really hard to convince me of tbh. Benefits-more fans for the idol and the groups involved more opportunities to release music, particularly when Shinee were on hiatus due to military and Exo was inactive due to lots of members being gone as well. Longevity I dont see how you’re going to measure that now. Maybe in 5 years we can talk more about that.
Next they’re basically saying “fanbases hate each other, they can’t work together, ect.” Which 1)not true (nctzens and shawols for a lot of the time have been overall civil, a decent amount were even really happy about SuperM) and 2)weren’t you talking earlier about how great collaborations between groups were? How they were sm’s strength and whatnot?
I don’t think I want to continue. The arguments imo are really weak, especially when applied to SuperM (GOT the Beat is maybe more understandable, but I think the fact that theyre said to be rotational and that they have very little content, along with people liking the songs less is a better explanation than anything this person has come up with). I really think it boils down to the fact that the groups have a lot of antis from various places, particularly certain other non SM fandoms. So people see that they have antis and conclude that no one likes them without bothering to look at all the fans that the groups have. Idk about the popularity for GOT the Beat, but SuperM are doing just fine.

these girls for sure who were on tv in the Korean MMC for a season..( you may recognize the boys.) all of theym trained with Yeri.,






none of whom made aespa or any sm gg, (one just because of the bad luck that she got caught in Japan duding a visit home when the pandemic hit.)

And that does not count girls who went back to China.

Sure the girl in the dark sailor Uniform Is Lami.
She is in all the MMC videos, for 6 years she was billed as the next Yoona.
Lami never became an Idol, but has resigned with SM in the last year to act.

she came into sm in long ago , here she is with Tiffany at like 10 announced as a SM rookie.


The 4 girls in the Micky Mouse Club were
Koeun, Herin, Hina, Lami all of whom trained with Yeri.

The video from SM town had Yeri, Koeun, Herin , Hina, Winny and Jeesu. Winny and Jessu left sm shortly after this. None of these girls became Idols other than Yeri. The MMC 3 mostly because they trained for 7-9 years and SM sat on their hands to debut a group.

What happened to the MMC girls is what i think led to so many polished idol trainees to seek other agencies.

Fun Fact Yeonjung from IOI and WJSN also trained with Yeri, but she left SM after Red Velvet was formed and moved to starship. (1/4 of WJSN were in SM)

Ning Ning the longest trainee in Aespa joined SM in 2016 she never trained with Yeri.
