Things you should know before moving out (1 Viewer)

I'm most likely going to be moving out really soon and it's my first time doing so. Has anyone of you moved out by themselves and what are things you wish you knew beforehand?

It will most likely cost more than you initially planed.

Utilities were a shock i think my first electric bill was $400. Got my attention.

make sure to check which ways your windows face to see if the sun will shine in or not, and check to see if windows face each other and stuff to know if you can air the place out properly

This. Get an expense tracker like Mint (free) so you know where your money is going. It is so easy to spend money.

And always pay your credit card bill in full.

i always do that its free money. but not a bunch of places want you do do ach and charge for credit cards.

Use your mobile data wisely because when you move its likely going to be a while before your isp comes to install a router and connection.

Cheaper is really not better. Its worth paying an extra few hundred to live in a neighborhood that's not filled with crime, drugs, and violence.

Some apartments, or flats, come with utilities included. If you go with that option find out the terms. Some landlords can really be the scum of the earth and f--k with your utilities. Such as installing a bolt to stop you from turning the AC on below 75.

Depending where you're from: Get one of those water pitcher that filter out the impurities.. I live in Western US and I can literally taste grass in my unfiltered tap water.

If your friends/family will let you: share a streaming service with them.

Plan ahead. If you drive, plan some sort of savings fund [if you can] for a day when your car breaks down so that you can be prepared for that.

I wouldn't know considering my mom is the one moving out and not me.

Try to buy as much stuff from second hand stores or websites. I saved so much from getting second hand stuff rather than buying everything new.

And if you can go see the apartment first before you rent it because pictures always dont tell everything
