2NE1 DISCUSSION: CAN MINZY BECOME A MAINSTREAM SOLO ARTIST?

So as a BlackJack and POS, I have to admit Minzy's 2017 debut was not received well, neither the title song or the EP. I would like to ask do you guys think Minzy can become a more mainstream soloist or stay a underrated or "flop" one as she is now?

THE PROBLEM WITH THE MUSIC WORKS

Personally I think she can but I think her company the Music Works has not been managing her well at all. When she came with out with Niano to be fair they actually did a great job, having her on Unnie's Slam Dunk, she promoted on music shows regularly and she went on some noted variety shows. However my main problem with them is that after Niano they simply stopped.

While she has been performing at festivals, they have been low level ones people don't know about, not ones like KCON or M Countdown overseas. Not to mention they have not used the companies connections to do collaborations or features with the artist in their sister companies nor has she done any tv appearances I know of. Music Works's social media presence is small and it is all in Korean. They don't work with Minzy's fansites or highlight her dance academies activities such as making Gfriend's Sunrise.

MY PROBLEM WITH THE FANDOM

Frankly I also have a ax to grind with BlackJacks. All of the other three members of 2NE1 I would say are fairly supported equally. They each have a region that they are the most popular in, Bom in Korea, Dara in Southeast Asia and CL in the West (so W. Europe and the Americas). But Minzy is drastically unpopular compared to all of them. And it has nothing to do with the drama of the disbandment, I feel like people just use that as a excuse. The numbers are in her personal and fan social media, her debut's lack of success and the views her content gets. People say Niano or the EP was not good but no one knew how Spring would sound but the fandom rallied around Bom regardless.

I'm still sorta "new" as I got into 2NE1 after they prime, but why is that? I know YG did not promote her at all when she was in 2NE1, so she wasn't given a opportunity to build up a individual fandom. But to me Minzy always stood out on the stage after CL and no one denies her excellence in singing, rapping, and dancing. I listened to a "What If 2NE1 sang ING" and Minzy's voice literally blended in with everyone's assigned part, so she also harmonized the entire group. Is she just destined to be unpopular?

It seems like people wanted her to stay in her place or not to mess up the imagery of 2NE1 they wanted. They don't have a right to tell her how she should feel or what she should do when they never cared.

True, its just embarrassing because of how big they are.

Jessica is lucky she was one of the most popular members but yes there are a lot of OT8 Sones they completely ignore her. They also find it easy to act as if she was in the wrong because they want to hold onto to the soshibond, even if its just 8 members.

Yeah I see people who go on and on about a 2NE1 reunion but either don't support or look out for their solo activities or are practically solo stans now. That confuses me, if I stan a group I support all the members or I would have always been a solo stan and just a casual listener like I'am for SNSD.

I know I should be happy that Minzy is happy but its annoying me seeing someone so talented and close to the fame they deserve be underrated, especially when their own fandom always clamor for their group to comeback but ignore her. I don't think this has to do with the disbandment drama but goes back to the shallow and arbitrary nature of stan culture and the fact that YG never pushed her at all. I guess we will just have to wait and see how she does when she releases a major work (I don't really count All of You Say).

Main problem is she haven't reach her peak imo during 2NE1 days while the three others got their spotlight so thats why her debut as a soloist was facing huge hurdle to begin with

She was always the talented, super maknae during her days in 2ne1 but again she never been promoted well even in 2ne1

I hope she can find her own style and do what she love best

This is so true. I don't get the way YG manages his groups whatsoever. Why tout them as super talented but clearly choose one or two to favor and one or two to ignore.? Why not push all of them? SM is I think a immoral company but they try (maybe not to the same extent) but try to give all their older group members a time to shine. I'm sure every Girls Generation member has/had their own side project. SM from a purely business stand point tries to maximize profit and attention by putting out as much as possible and trying to satisfy each fandom.

As a GZB this was hard for me to accept but I finally did. While Bom was the most popular in Korea and Dara you could argue overall in Asia (with 2nd popular in Korea and super popular in SEA), YG the man clearly favored CL. That attention through solos, features, and solo gigs took supplies away from Minzy. I remember she (Minzy) said she made a album for 2011 (or had finished by 2011) but that was pushed back for another senior label mate. I feel that was GD as he released his One of A Kind EP in 2012 in the middle of Alive promotions. Or it could have been Bom who released Don't Cry.

With all the drama surrounding the disbandment I get why people were taken aback by Minzy but we all know that their disbandment was due to many factors and how could people take out their frustration on a member? I just feel like if any of the other members had been in the same situation people still would have supported. I just hope Minzy comes back soon and gets support, or just comes back lol.

I found this re-arranged version of CL's All In. I really love it. It sounds like a complete song and it's so clean as well. I can confidently say that All In is really CL's best song so far for me.
