Actually, this is kind of a good thing. Especially if physical albums contribute to this and not just digitals. I’ve seen a lot of places with albums just thrown into trash and helping produce more waste. If it’s just digital. I’ve seen way too many people buy a digital under multiple accounts. If they found a way to detect genuine digital purchases. It would show this chart can actually be trusted more. I’m not particularly a fan of everyone to buy so many copies of one song. Not all groups have massive fandoms. I feel this would be more fair for international, and domestic fandoms of soloist, or groups.

I’ve seen them thrown in trash, some on sidewalks, and there’s been a lot of images also of them putting them in land fills. That’s why I never liked the idea of bulk buying. As soon as people got the cards. They throw the albums out

This is INCREDIBLY common with Kpop albums, especially in Korea & Japan. They either throw them away after taking out the inclusions (which can be sold) or "donate" them to charity, which charities actually hate. The main reason for all the waste is usually fansigns/hi-touch events, where more albums means a better chance at getting in.

I get so excited when an album comes - like my SUPERM one. I wouldn't shut up about it for 3 months.
And my RUMINATION Album im getting this weekend - ive waited since November for it so i am soooo hyped

i hate to be mean but- you aint a fan fan if you just go and throw away an album just to get a group or soloist or whatever on the charts. It should be genuine.

So i agree with it. What they've done. It's not fair on artists and its not fair on the industry. Fake numbers aren't a true sign of popularity - its just like scamming someone, its not real. The LOVE or whatever for the product isn't REAL.

I agree. No need to apologize. Sadly I’ve seen many fandoms guilty of it. So if this chart can actually start catching genuine sales, it would help a lot. It most likely won’t happen, but even if it’s digital. It would make it more difficult to make multiple accounts to purchase the digitals. I’ve left fandoms due to this so actually seeing many fandoms being guilty of IP’s, multiple accounts, and zombie streaming. It would make it difficult for K-POP fandoms, and western based fandoms who are also guilty of the same thing.

my problem is buying many copies of an album is a genuine sale. Not a unique sale but say i bought 10 albums (which i have) i wanted them and paid for em. )
Sure at some point they will go to the landfill but then so will I.

Those testimonies from people working in orphanages are rough. If anything, I wish there was some kind of "charity" where bulk bought albums could go to kpop fans that can't afford them because there's plenty of those...

I collect, myself, and have had to make the really difficult decision of which of my faves to support at which times because I'm on a fixed income, so I understand the sentiment.

Unfortunately it's profitable for companies to not only encourage, but enable such behaviour. PC collecting, limited inclusions, fansign exclusive cards, multiple album versions, multiple photobook versions...There's no thought to the excess and the waste, just profit margins. This is also why a lot of fans don't treat idols as humans, they're a product to be collected. I feel like many also see their artist's achievements as their own, when in reality all fans contribute is money. Supporting your favourite music shouldn't be a full time job, but too many these days treat it that way. If you're not constantly streaming, voting, buying, you're not seen as a "true" fan. It's a bunch of b.s.

Reading those just made me mad as hell. These orphanages and charities have enough to do already without being drown under donations that do nothing to actually help. They just use them as a more optically-friendly version of throwing things in the trash. Make them someone else's problem. I feel the same way about that, I've seen some fans take it upon themselves to actually pay others to ship unwanted albums to them so they could be given away. This is how I got my hands on one of Monsta X's Japanese albums, another fan gave them out in line at the concert I went to. It would be nice if every fandom created some kind of distribution network for unwanted albums, but unfortunately it costs money to get them from the people who don't want them to those who do, and there's not many willing to pay more just to be sure these don't end up in landfills.

More fans need to do that or at least sell them used for cheap.
Companies encourage it, fans not only normalize it but demand it and now sellers are getting into the mix and wrapping unknowing fans into it. All that money fanbases donate to lower album prices for everyone is also being used to bulk buy albums that Ktown4u then dumps on Youth Centers. Hundreds to thousands of copies of ONE album is being dumped off at centers at any given comeback
