they were the cutest pair as friends :< spencer and toby were meh
I did like hanna and caleb, they were pretty nice together and there were even rumours they dated irl
ikr not me being 12-13 watching their relationship progress and not realizing until later how messed up it was because it was so normalizedsome people say it's fine since they didn't know in the first ep but he should've put an end to it after he found out she's his student

exactly the writers just gave up for the plots of her romance lines
he played it so well at least it was convincing and true we do need talented actors to pull villain roles off
at least it's not as normalized now x.x

I think Mike's and Aria's parents reaction in S2 prove the writers did attempt to show that the relationship is inappropriate. One theory for a while was that Ezra was on the A team.. that would have been a good way to write him out of the storyline. But beyond that I do find that PLL had bigger problems that adults would not like their younger siblings, children, younger family members to engage in.. Perhaps it was me being ~22 years old when I watched PLL for the first time that led me to come to the conclusion that it is an adult show about teenagers...

There was this show that was released on Showtime in the early 00s that featured a 16 year old boy who had a romantic relationship with a 28 year old business man... I thought it was creepy, but anytime a character was against it they were discredited as if the writers were trying to normalize predatory relationships [as a 28 year old dating a 16 year old is predatory in my opinion].

that's definitely concerning and predatoryand for sure, if you contemplate on the content in most ya series there's often something open to criticism, and the writers doing that to the characters who went against it is a big step worse above pll..there's a big difference between writers just trying to convey the content of a book to a show without agreeing on the topic, and writers trying to make a point that sides with problematic topics

I've only read like 100 pages from the first book, but from what I have heard the books are vastly different from the tv show.

yeah.. lol. Did you see the short lived spinoff? I liked it for the simple fact that Mona wasn't given the short end of the stick... even though she on some level deserves the vitriol that the liars spew at her...

I never got around to watching it but surprised she wasn't since the liars never let it go in the original series which I guess was much deserved :") she was an interesting character though

I'd disagree bc after that, suddenly the next season the parents didn't care at all. They didn't mention it at all, except "trying to understand it", the mom was saying they taught her to be open-minded her and can't blame her for being "open-minded" like they taught her. Aria was saying "love is love" to justify it, the parents were vilified for trying to do something, Ezra acted like Aria's dad was bullying him. Even after Ezra was revealed to have known Aria's age from the beginning and purposely hit on her for research on his book and Alison, and stalking all the girls, Aria still went back to him. Every time she wrote something about Ezra being a predator or the relationship being inappropriate to get what she wanted, she regretted it bc it would "hurt his feelings" and it wasn't true.

Its been a while since I'd watch it, so I'd have to rewatch to relive much of these plot points..

All of their relationships were really F***d up. and I don't think this is a matter of opinion. Spencer kisses her sister's boyfriend. Hanna takes Caleb back too fast. Emily's relationship are all a mess. This isn't to defend Ezra/Aria, but to show that none of them knew what tf they were doing. This is obvious when it comes to their behavior and A barely having to work to blackmail them even after the Jenna thing... But its a show and what I really came to be sad about in regard to this show is the A reveal. Really? There could have been something way more inventive than that. And then in 6B Alison wants the liars to forgive her or give a positive statement so she could get out? For f**k sake.
I like Troian, Ashley, Lucy, Shay, Janel, and Sasha as actresses and were believable in their role, but... goddamn. its got me wanting to read fanfics to find a better A reveal than that.
