Yes I know they're still getting billions of views and streams but if all feels routine and to non fans it's not all that relevant.

Even tho they seem bigger to me the bts hype kinda died down since dna/mic drop, they havent really had a big hit since. Or impactful songs, fake love was more about jungkooks abs than anything else and idol was kinda a flop (no offense just my opinion)

They wanted to get number 1 on hot 100 and win Grammys and stuff but apart from mass streaming from millions of army (loyal) what else are they really doing? I kinda don't feel the same hype as before I think that they will remain huge in numbers but just slowly lose hype as the years pass.

What do you think?

Yes, I think it's even more - their Twitter, Youtube, and Instagram growth is excellent. Their albums keep selling beautifully despite it being 9 months since their last release, new fans are stocking up on old releases. Their media mentions in the west are up and it's no longer just baffled articles about their 'crazy fans'. The Persona video got widespread coverage and respect in a way Epiphany didn't. They just got a real music award nomination. When they're spokepeople for anything, anywhere, it mints money.

Answer was their best selling album yet, and Idol wasn't really meant to be a super approachable single (and I agree it's not, much better live), it was their mega-huge end-of-year and end-of-era award performance banger, and it delivered. Something to keep in mind is BTS is an album group, not a singles one. Their strength is their whole discography and the albums, not titles. Yes, they will eventually become a legacy band and hype will move on, but I think by then they'll be a pantheon group, and it won't matter that they're not the 'hottest', they'll have been so impactful they'll be official legends.

Finally they're being treated like just another music group, and that's huge. :pepeheart: They're no longer being talked about just another boy band for tween girls or an Asian novelty.

What you mention is just army and numbers. Multiple streams multiple accounts mass album buying etc. Ofc its gonna go up.

And the second half is more just an opinion I personally still think they're viewed as that crazy fandom group. Tho not as much they still mostly are associated with it.

Oh of course it's always just opinion! Who knows this CB could crash and no one will know them in a couple of years, life is chaos. :pandaroll:and Idol definitely wasn't their strongest title song. (I disagree on Fake Love though, that song has been really strong for them critically and awards wise)

But I guess I used the examples I did because to me, social media engagement, sales, and media are ways to measure hype? Some specific metrics can say are just fan behavior sure, but that doesn't cover even half of their success points. Mass-buying Chinese fans and young stans who make multiple accounts aren't buying 45k Hyundai SUVs at record rates for example. And Stan Twitter is very organic community, good and bad, but that is more opinion.

What does hype and buzz mean to you, how would it be measured going up and down if not with numbers? Honest question. You might be right, just want to make sure we're taking about the same thing!

The hype has been on and off, as of today it's off imo, but after the comeback you BETTER believe they'll blow up again

Hype is definitely there, their growth is substantial. However, I can't help it but feel that they are being peer-pressured with releasing stuff that will accommodate general public outside of Korea as well. They are losing their signature image. IDOL was a great opportunity where they incorporated Korean culture in the mix and by mocking the industry for "over-over-producing" their MVs that was a step ahead. I'm curious what they will release with Persona, but I hope it won't be another "western-ear-pleasant" release and that they will take a risk, because they can afford it.
