Middle schoolers should know right from wrong but I don't think this gonna do much to make them really understand long-term consequences. Ditching those friends and starting over at a new school dud show she was at least trying to turn her life around

Regardless, Hybe's PR time and time again proves themselves to be complete and utter dogshit.

If there was any remorse or growth from garam in the last 6ish years, you can't get it from hiding behind a company statement saying you're as pure as the fresh plowed snow.
While I can understand why this decision was made, I do feel bad that she had to be kicked out of this group especially since she is young, and I am pretty sure that 1st year of middle school is considered to be like 12-13 years old I think? So it's sad in a way.
Apparently the friends in her group were being threatening about if they found the people saying stuff which would make it still an issue to this day and more questionable on her.

Anyway it's for the best since Hybe didn't do anything significant to prove the allegations wrong and Kpop fans can be very unforgiving so she would've likely been harassed had she just continued with the group while now she'll likely be under the radar after some time has passed.

good. she's young so she still has time to grow as a person. after reading about what a serious problem bullying in korea is i can't say i feel bad for her being removed from the group since you don't get a literal restraining order just like that. if i remember correctly her victim also attempted suicide so i can't feel sympathy for garam in this case (minus the death threats - no one deserves that but i assume it's obvious). i hope she can rightfully face the consequences of her actions and learn a lesson from that.

I honestly wish that I could, because of her age....
Kids as young as kindergarten age have enough common sense to know "bullying is bad", age is never an excuse when it comes to bullying. May this be a lesson for all kids who want to pursue their dreams in the future, idol or not.

It seems too severe to me personally. Not only was she 12/13 at the time, from what I understand the school authorities already dealt with it and she got her punishment. That for me, and an acknowledgement and apology for past mistakes would have been enough. I guess they’ll be a lot to this we’ll never know.

I'm kind of shocked at people's understanding of age and stuff.

I can't even remember when I was 12 or 13 let alone the choices I made back then. To top it off yes bullying is wrong and is hammered into a lot of kids at a young age and throughout school but that doesn't mean they have any idea what long-term consequences actually mean...to add to this a lot of the time those who bully don't think it through and don't even realize until it's too late that what they were doing was messed up.

Take it from someone who has a history of being a bully and who also was bullied. I did NOT realize how vile I was until I grew up and looked back at my past behavior and realized I wasn't JUST a victim.

I think people don't understand that kids genuinely don't understand long-term consequences. DOES not matter what you personally think and believe. If kids aren't allowed to decide what drugs should go into their body or what procedures they should go through because they aren't at an age to understand long-term consequences/results what makes you think they understand that their behavior at a young age can greatly impact their future?

I doubt when Garam was behaving this way she later on sat back and thought...wow this is going to ruin my life. OR that she even realized what she was doing was wrong??? She was a fucking kid. Y'all are fucking ridiculous. Was what she did ok by any means? HELL NO!

But not everyone is raised the same damn way and this shit starts at home. Also, we do not come from the same culture. Parental rights and wrongs are different. Punishments are different. The school system is different. We can judge all we want but we don't fully understand.

Nobody's life should be ruined by shit they did when they were LITERAL kids. Unless of course they fucking murdered someone but that's a whole other can of worms.

P.S sorry I'm just a little frustrated at this whole thing. I don't even like Garam-fuck the internet tbh.

Just because she can't be a public figure doesn't mean her life is ruined though as she can still get a perfectly normal job and maybe with some time away she can even become an idol if it seems she has reflected on her actions since I'm sure people will be more willing to forgive her because of her age as long as she can show she's changed.

She still might be in the group if Hybe handled this better and just said Garam will reflect on her actions since idols have done worse and survived just because of that but them immediately just threatening to sue wasn't a great look.

Not disagreeing that to a degree a portion of this is dumbass kids but actions need to have consequences including for kids and the harshness of this one is just down to the fact it's the idol industry and Hybe didn't particularly do a good job to alleviate the situation which is a situation Korea is a problem Korea is very tense about.

I can understand that it is different for children to be held to the same standard as an actual adult for behavior that they are not emotionally mature enough to understand. However I believe it's justified for garam to have left at this point considering HYBEs way of handling her situation as well as how serious bullying is as a problem in Korea. I know that you said that it shouldn't be taken so seriously unless someone actually dies but it's all too common in Korea for students to commit suicide or be horribly injured because bullying is such a serious problem there. So I can understand why there are some people that very seriously condemn her actions although I know her age plays a factor in her ability to understand what she is doing. It's a very serious situation in Korea to be a bully and it's way worse than it is in many Western societies so I don't really blame people for wanting her out.

This is a good thing. I'm of the belief that the allegations are true. Al of the evidence supports it, I mean it's literally on her SCHOOL RECORDS. Not to mention the severity is the worst that could've been given without suspension or expulsion. Whether you believe the allegations or not though this is the right move for HYBE to make. She's just debuted and was only an idol for 2 weeks. Unlike other cases where there are idols who have been around for years and have long since moved on from their school years, this girl has only been in the spotlight for the equivalent of like 5 minutes. Removing her is the best option if HYBE wants the group to have a positive future.

Please don't put words in my mouth-that is NOT what I said at all.

regarding the rest of what you said, I do believe there should be consequences I just don't believe an actual child should have her career torpedoed for her behavior as a child. Yes, punishment should be sought out and I understand her being kicked out because of HYBE's whole handling of the situation and I also understand that bullying is pretty serious in Korea.

But I mentioned that I/we don't personally understand that culture there-especially in regards to teacher's ability, the amount of time these children ACTUALLY spend at home in the care of their parents, and what exactly goes on behind closed doors. I'm an American and obviously don't understand the full degree of the situation but I do know that bullying is pretty serious to the point that classes will sometimes pick one specific student to pick on and ostracize. I'm not trying to diminish the seriousness of this situation.

I just don't believe children understand long-term consequences and as a result act accordingly-I've mentioned it privately but I mean my fellow classmates in high school had no problem essentially blowing off classes to fuck around in the auditorium where students (including myself) were mourning the loss of a classmate..I understand it's different case to case but in that instance, I don't think those kids understood what big assholes they were being.

THEY WERE HIGH SCHOOLERS...(upperclassmen at that). I just think people in this thread are overestimating children/kids/teens understanding of long-term consequences and their emotional intelligence and understanding of serious topics such as bullying. I obviously don't know what Korea necessarily does in response to bullies other than the court when it gets super serious.

My main point is-children, in GENERAL, should not be held accountable for actions and decisions they made as CHILDREN to THIS degree of having it ultimately torpedo (or at least greatly affect) any future endeavors or steps into the limelight. Should they face consequences? Yes, of course, but crucifying them way after the fact even after they were punished seems a bit ridiculous to me...at that point what is good enough for the hate mob?

I agree with the bottom statements. I just don't fully agree with punishment being doled out to this degree so long after the fact and to top it off even after she was already originally punished for her previous actions. I don't disagree with her being removed from the group-at this point it seems the only way. I just get pissed that people act like children have the emotional intelligence to really discern in GREAT detail what is right and what is wrong.

Not to mention how some will completely disregard it if given the chance to seem cool. I mean tiktok is a prime example of kids/teens not understanding how they come across as HUGE assholes to the general public. And how that shit is permanent.

This is what I was referring to, I wasn't trying to insinuate that you were saying the situation shouldn't be taken seriously. I was saying that these mistakes that she made can lead too easily to death to serious injury to permanent emotional and mental damage. So this bullying has to be looked at in terms of what happens to the victims who suffer from it and all of the possible consequences. It's common for a lot of people including me to think about garam in this situation since she has a name and face and not think about the people who were victims when I discuss the situation.

I don't believe that she should be crucified and sent death threats over what she did. I do believe that people can change especially when what you've done is when you were so young. But as you said she has to face consequences for it not just for her own learning but for people that are also involved in bullying whether they are the victim, the perpetrator or both.

Yes, punishment should be sought out and I understand her being kicked out because of HYBE's whole handling of the situation and I also understand that bullying is pretty serious in Korea.
This is the part we agree on then. That it is understandable that she had to leave the group for her actions. I never tried to say that she deserves to have her life ruined

And another one bites the dust! Now I can stan them without regrets! I do hope she can learn from her actions, though. Bullying isn't cool and will only get you in deep, deep shit like getting booted from the girl group you just debuted in.

I know we aren't supposed to mention other websites on this forum but please check out a specific one to see how all this shit could actually FULLY ruin her life. People are taking this shit too far. I don't care that she got kicked out of the group but the public response and reaction is fucked up to the max.

i don't agree with people sending her death threats as you can't solve bullying by bullying and no one deserves to have this amount of pressure on them coming from the public when they're still a child but if anything this should be a sign to stop debuting minors and doing background checks on idols' history in schools because it's not like the public reaction would have been better with hybe keeping her in the group as if nothing happened.

The issue is that nobody seems to really care. This is a 16-year-old girl who is not only having her idol career ruined but getting shit thrown at her left and right as a result of photos where you can't even see the person's face. To top it off people are sexualizing her saying super vulgar things, and sending death threats. She is still in school and for some reason, people seem to be forgetting that...she literally most likely will now be the victim of SEVERE bullying because she fucked up at 12 years old. And all of this was aired publically and it's not like this is an unknown company, this is HYBE known internationally and nationally. People don't seem to be getting the gravity of the shit being thrown this girl's way at fucking 16 years old.

Yeah, she fucked up but I don't think I'd be able to live anymore if I was in her shoes and my past mistakes were taken to this level of harrassment and punishment. I'm just pissed people seem to just simply say "oh yeah obviously she shouldn't get death threats" and act like that absolves them of taking any accountability for how this is all genuinely affecting a 16-year-old girl.

I went throw something similar but on a much more minor scale and when I was older for mistakes I made and I wound up really going off the deep end. I can't imagine being her right now. I know she fucked up at 12 years old but FFS SHE WAS TWELVE YEARS OLD.

Nobody seems to give a fuck. If she winds up dead people are suddenly going to act remorseful when it's all BS. Her victim obviously deserved justice but that justice was given when the court got involved-this is OVERKILL. I'm really having a hard time understanding how people can rejoice over this public reputation killing and life-ruining...but ya know whatever.

This isn't fully directed at you btw I'm just really mad and frustrated.

i don't entirely disagree with you since it is indeed a messed up situation especially for a teenager, which is why i said i hope this is a sign for companies to stop debuting minors because no child should be put in this situation ever, especially since some of those things you mentioned like sexualising comments and harassment are not something exclusive to this case but an issue that even idols who have never been involved in any kind of publicised scandals have to face. but at the same time i think it's too early to judge how exactly this will affect her, all those speculations with worst possible scenarios and the completely absurd and disrespectful comparisons to idols who have died by suicide in the past that i also saw are unnecessary as she might as well just settle for a life of a normal citizen and be able to grow safely - which is what i wish for her and most importantly for her victims too, online harassment can ruin lives but so can school bullying regardless of young age. however, i see nothing wrong with people saying "oh she obviously shouldn't get death threats" because at the end of the day this is the only thing most people can say as we don't have any power over those who do send her the threats so there is nobody who should be held accountable but them. i don't blame people for rejoicing her removal from the group like those who say "i can stan them now" because thinking that a person who drove another person to attempting suicide doesn't deserve an idol career isn't the same as agreeing with online harassment. i see where you're coming from and get why you're mad over this, honestly as much as i agree with the decision to let lesserafim promote as five i think it is incredibly disappointing to see this situation reach this state because such issues could have been prevented if it had been handled differently from the start.

Honestly I do feel bad for Garam because of her age and knowing how hard it is to even become an idol. Having all that ripped away from you so suddenly and in this way must be devastating beyond words. But I hope she becomes a better person and her family is protecting her from the public and even seeking out mental help for her. HYBE really failed in this situation. They should have checked everyone's school records or delayed her debut when the rumors came out. Also what happened to HYBE allegedly going to schools to intimidate students, faculty, and staff? All that for what?!
