Jay took to ENHYPEN’s official fan community on Weverse to give his apology.

His apology comes after a comment he made during a live broadcast he held with fellow member Sunghoon. Sunghon made a comment saying, “I find Korean history to be fun these days,” to which Jay replied, “I [prefer] world history. I learned a good amount of Korean history in school. I don’t think there’s that much information. If you just study for a couple weeks or skim over it, it’s over really quickly. It feels like a short story.”

After I concluded the Weverse Live today, I was very surprised to see fans’ reactions.

Regardless of the reason, I sincerely apologize to ENGENE for any discomfort and inconveniences that I have caused.

I spoke too negatively about the important topic of Korean history based only on my own personal impression. It is not a topic I should have rashly talked about with lack of knowledge. Today has become an opportunity for me to realize once again that I still have much to learn.

I had absolutely no intention of disregarding our proud history, but I recognize that my words may have caused others to feel that way, and that is my fault. I apologize.

Going forward, I will be more careful and study more so that I can become an artist ENGENE are not ashamed of.

He didn't get in trouble for that part though, he got in trouble for his explanation that minimizes their history which anyone who knows anything about how proud Korea is was an extremely unwise thing to say

He said that between a certain time period, there wasn’t much information, and said that liking studying history, and having read about the histories of various countries, what he has read on Korea seems short in comparison to other countries’ histories that he has studied on his own accord, because of how much history/information there is on that time period

it was worded really badly for sure but I don’t think he had any bad intentions

He should have mentioned the part about balhae and the 3 kingdoms before calling it short as well

To me the way it comes across is that he just isn't that interested in learning anymore about Korean history since in his own words he's saying you can skim over it which generally there's nothing to skim over in history because only major events are chronicled like no one knows what happened on a random day in 1748 if it wasn't anything big and if he had just stopped at he prefers learning about other countries history this whole thing could have been avoided.

He probably just needs to learn to filter things better as this comes across to me as someone who just blurted his thoughts about without thinking about what he was saying and sometimes you have to know when to do that which Korea is very prideful and to something more relatable to fans on here imagine if it was an American saying that sort of comment since Americans are also quite proud of their country.

The short story part was insensitive but since he named the time periods and compared to the volume of other countries "histories", I didn't see it that way

As an American, idk what I would think if someone said American History was short and World History was better, it is shorter than most countries

But as an American, one of the big things we study is the Revolutionary War and on some things I thought Americans were in the wrong, and sided with the British

One teacher did not like it, bc we were supposed to make a brochure for one side on one particular event, I think the tax collectors, and I made a British brochure against tar and feathering and only the British kid also made a British brochure and everyone else made American brochures

What could he do though, I followed the directions, so I got full credit, tho he was NOT happy

In high school, my teacher liked that I actually thought about it and I could have discussions with her, when we studied that, and also about some hypocrisies like America having territories now but hating being a British territory then, and all that, but then covid happened in the middle of class
