It’s felt like the generations last about 5 years, sometimes maybe a little bit extra if a big company launches a group at the ending of the year or the very beginning of one.

I’d say we should be heading into 5th gen next year. I will say I’m hoping to see Baby Monster debut this year as planned.

I disagree with the current timeline, because most people seem to lump Stray Kids and (G)I-DLE into 4th gen, and I don't think they fit there. 2018 debuts are in 3rd gen in my mind.

Only in 2019 did the media start referring to groups as 4th gen too, with the rise of monster rookies itzy and txt in the first quarter of the year

stray kids and (g)i-dle were not considered 4th gen or anything and nothing in 2018 was influential enough to start a new gen, plus the timeline for 3rd gen would be way too short then

And in 2018 3rd gen groups were still way at the top

Exactly, the name BabyMonster and also shortform BaeMon was trademarked by YG back in 2019 December. And they started introducing trainees to debut in BabyMonster in 2020, and promoting as BabyMonster. First it was said BabyMonster would debut in 2020. Then 2021. Then 2022. None of that happened, and the trainees supposed to debut in Baby Monster left (makes sense, all the delays) leaving them with just a few trainees to put in the lineup including a 13 year old that would not have debuted according to their original plan, but they got trainees leaving left and right, so they needed someone else ig

But even if we are not supposed to ever trust YG, I think with them now releasing all those promo videos for each member, it would be too insane even for them, to not debut the group soon

People get caught up in the amount of years but usually there are defining events or changes in sound that mark new gems. The fact that gg are now million sellers will pave the way for that, I think, but we’re not there yet IMO. I think some monster gg will fundamentally set up the 5th Gen.

I agree completely. Itzy and (G)-Idle feel much more like 3rd Gen to me than 4th Gen; however, I have different standards than most for my definitions of the generations.

they literally sent two trainees to a survival show promoting as baby monster in February 2020 and both of them left so idk
