They wouldn't be able to do anything without being the copyright holder so they couldn't prevent Gfriend from performing any of their discography since they don't have exclusive rights to it and only the girls would be able to sign away or even enforce the copyright themselves potentially

Source applied for the copyright but was denied because gfriend was broken up and the girls were no long with the company. If they had applied prior to letting the girls go they could have gotten it.

That's the thing, no one owns the Gfriend copy right. The girls, according to Korean law have the best shot of getting the copyright. Source applied for the copyright but was denied because gfriend was broken up and the girls were no long with the company. If they had applied prior to letting the girls go they could have gotten it.

You don't have the full story there, Source was explicitly denied not because Gfriend had broken up but because the judge on the case said "Gfriend is synonymous with the 6 members" so while they could have gotten it while the group was under them and why Source had applied for the copyright before they told even the girls I believe that they were going to be terminating their contracts.

All to say that since no one explicitly owns the copyright then there's no one who can enforce protection of the copyright either as no single company can have the right to enforce it with it needing all the girls to sign off on it so the Gfriend brand itself is pretty much free use but of course the images of the girls aren't part of that since their individual companies can enforce that.

I have learned about copyright/trademark in my spare time with copyright being regarded to intellectual property and trademark being a more specific thing like Gfriends 1st logo which Source Music weirdly has the copyright for that and that alone. No one has the right at the moment to stop Gfriend having a comeback though yeah as for anyone but the girls to win it they would need the girls to sign off on it so nothing stopping them except their contract situation since 4 companies working together is a bit unrealistic.
