Girl the fucking competition it breeds is wild like I go to a public school, but it's a public school in such an academic area that we got two types of people: people who don't give a shit and are trying their best (me), people who are TOO UP THEIR ASSES IN THEIR RANKINGS LIKE GIRL IT'S ONLY HIGH SCHOOL (also me). The whole system (espeically hsc don't get me started on this shit) just breeds fucking competitiveness AND THE SUBJECT SCALING HELLO!? HOW THE HELL IS BIOLOGY AND PDHPE SO LOW WHEN THEY'RE HARD AF?!?!?! Sorry I can go on all day about this shit

cert IV is tafe right? I'm honestly considering doing tafe after uni cause I'm going to uni for the fun of it. As in, idk what job I'll get out of it I just wanna go cause I like what I'm gonna study (linguistics, fingers crossed). I wouldn't mind being a librarian. But I know that though there aren't much jobs in linguistics it's such a niche area that I'll probably find something

Girl honestly I wish I have that mindset, but the ATAR is in 10 days and that's all I have on my mind. I just need 80. That's all I need. Fucking hate how I'm being compared to other students though.

I remember a classmate of mine had to do a topic regarding the ATAR as part of a debate topic in English class when we were in year 11 and that was the only presentation that got the whole class interested in!! NAHHHHH CAUSE I CAN GO ON ALL DAY ABOUT HOW FUCKING OF A SHITHOLE THIS WHOLE ATAR SYSTEM IS LIKE IS THE ATAR SYSTEM SERIOUSLY MENTAL OR SMTH???

yeah, cert iv is tafe but they also have some cert iv courses in some unis too. I’m sure you’ll find a particular course in there that’ll suit you :))

I understand - I just don’t get why there has to be competitiveness among the rankings with other students in the cohort like……💀 and then the top students in the school that get the highest atars amongst the rest of their peers will get the awards for it the early next year at an assembly in the high school that they went to and graduate from…lol like props to them like seriously idk how they manage to get that high of an ATAR themselves like just wow :0 respect!!

I don't think losing nights over studying and being is an acheivement (also the fact that I know a bit of students who pressured by their parents to take certain courses and get a certain atar too)

Also, like a bit of students looked down upon non-STEM students in my school. I didn't do science nor maths so to people who I talked to in year 10 they fucking grew bored or tired of me cause I couldn't talk about anything STEM. I had another friend who didn't do science too and there's this one fucking guy who had this superiority complex of us that he was so dry when talking to us, and he would talk to everyone else in our friend group because they did a science. Like sorry???? I find society and languages more interesting???? Sorry I give a fuck about humanities bro. And people were so surprised when I did two languages (if you're wondering, french and japanese) like YOU DO CHEM AND BIO!?!?!?!?!?

Thank fuck I never did STEM though the competition in the science classes was insane like please. My friend and I dogded a bullet with that stress (not that we weren't stressed ourselves).

I know tafe does librarian and auslan courses which I'm interested in. Thank you! I think I will, I have the privledge to choose what I wanna do.

at the end it’s your choice on what subjects you pick and do and that you know you’re comfortable with doing anyway so idg why the subject thing matters so much whether ur friends with those people that do the opposite subject or not. At least you can do two fricken languages which I assume are your best subjects?? Idk I used to find languages to be the easiest subjects for me but that was only when I did them in yrs 7 and 8 haha. At least languages and humanities are also far more fun and easy than fricken ass chem and bio ;-;

I liked discussing english, I will always love words and shit, but it was the essays for me. I always had to AGREE with the author. And I did TS ELLIOT!!!!! HE SUCKS!!!! I AM NO.1 TS ELLIOT HATER!!!

French was a breeze, Japanese was my worst subject ever. It went french > society > economics > english > Japanese. That being said I do enjoy japanese to a certain extent, it's just my inconfidence in Japanese made me have anxiety attacks and I was just always down on myself during it. Like I cried while my tutor (bless her) was praising my writing homework, because I genuinely don't believe I do well. Like I always tried so hard but got a 33% in a test one time. Like thanks, I did my best???? I remember hiding out at recess crying to myself. that and breaking down in front of my japanese teacher during homework, excusing myself to the bathroom when I got my test results. I hated that day. I remember my best friend coming up to me third period saying where I was, I told her my exam results and she was like "that's an improvement right?" cause I was in tutoring just to improve but I just shook my head. The fact that not only will I be scored but also RANKED!? girl no.

humanities is wayyyyyy more fun like im sorry y'all wanna stress over physics??? I'm having fun learning about France!!!

Hey, at least you survived!!! Maths is gonna be compulsory next HSC year lol, I luckily missed out on that. The fact that our school already had an english line and maths line too, like they just assumed everybody did it lol. I actually took up another language during year 11 instead of maths to get around it, can't torture me!
