Yep, my mom used to always make me carry an orange to school around chinese new year. Well, a mandarin orange to be exact.

Now as an adult..she would leave dried orange peel inside my car when she sees me..

I hate it...but my parents love to put a bit of orange peel in certain dishes. I always get "surprised" when I accidentally bite it.

Though I loved the sweet orange peel snacks lol

It's probably not traditional but whenever she makes braised brisket
There's no orange peel in that pic but her dish looks almost like that but with tiny bits of orange peel in it

I don't think it contributes anything to the dish....but they love to put it in there.

I'm starting to wonder if they do it for the flavor or they are just sprinkling in some good luck... lol
