gfriend looks to be fallout over teh MHJ taking the newjeans girls. source was beyond broke with all the debt from the trainees they took. let alone the one that failed while they were finding teh others.

they were counting on being able to write some of that off and have a new group to sell. with a hybe esk concept/

If a company couldn't make money with Gfriend that's on the company not Gfriend since they had no debt and while people talk about album sales it's irrelevant when Touring and CFs are the big money makers which Gfriends asking price for events was the highest outside of the Big 3 and Gfriend were revealed to be Hybes 2nd biggest moneymaker for that year.

Money had nothing to do with Gfriends disbandment and only people obsessed with album sales think that.

I'll premise my argument that none of truly know why gfriend disbanded...

my argument is isn't that they weren't making money - my speculation was that they weren't making enough money to justify the investment
obviously gfriend were released from their contracts but what made the members not continue together as 6 member gfriend post non-contract renewal? my understanding was that certain members wanted to do their own thing

I can't remember the exact groups but the thing is we hear about the big numbers more and more since they make the "news" and fans go wild praising them but certain fans also go wild in using such numbers to make fun of "lesser successful" groups
it becomes like a mean girls group where again certain fans will be like you can't sit with us if you don't hit 1m of something lol

Your understanding is incorrect then when Source filed to try and get the Gfriend trademark which they still have time on before they can even apply for the trademark themselves so they would not be able to use any of their discography if they reunited before getting the trademark which doesn't sound like the smartest idea now does it?

Source Music applied for the trademark before they even disbanded Gfriend which effectively locked them out of doing anything as Gfriend and quite frankly why should they be forced to start over? Some of them did take the opportunity to do other things they were interested in like Sowon wanted to do acting but she has said in interviews herself she didn't expect it to be so soon. They didn't want to be under another name and even Eunha who did end up in Viviz said she started studying again because she didn't know if she wanted to be an idol anymore however decided to try after SinB & Umji asked her when everyone else signed with other companies already.

Viviz was not an option until the other 3 were signed and BPM was a start up at that so it's not like "oh they could have just bought the other 3 Gfriend members" like that wouldn't be a very expensive thing to do and probably cost them quite a bit getting Eunha, SinB & Umji as it is.

One other thing I will note regarding the contract status is Sowons expired and she signed with another acting company, Yerins expired and she signed under a company that is related to BPMs founder I believe and Yujus contract is still the same so when her contract is up is anyone's guess.
