EXO’s D.O. will be enlisting in the military this year.

On May 30, Sports Chosun reported that according to multiple industry sources, D.O. will be enlisting as an active duty soldier on July 1. The EXO member, who was born in 1993, still has time left before the deadline for his required enlistment. According to the current military service law, D.O. can defer his military enlistment for a total of five times and just has to enlist by 2021, when he is 28 years old. However, now that the military enlistment process has started for EXO with Xiumin’s recent enlistment, D.O. has expressed his will to complete his military duties as soon as possible.

According to the report, after discussing with SM Entertainment and the EXO members, D.O. has decided to enter the military on active duty and will be the second EXO member to enlist following Xiumin.

EXO’s D.O. is enlisting in July. D.O. applied to serve in the military and received the notice for his July 1 enlistment date today, and is planning to faithfully serve as an active duty soldier.
With Xiumin’s enlistment on May 7 and with the process of military enlistments now starting for EXO, D.O. expressed his will to fulfill his military duties as soon as possible and applied after fully discussing it with the agency and his members. He hopes to enlist quietly, so we will respect his wishes and not reveal the time and location of his enlistment as well as hold any separate events on the day [of his enlistment].

Chen got a solo already, Baekhyun solo is rumored for July (right before the tour starts). Chanyeol won't get a solo since it will be Chanyeol x Sehun subunit this June.
So yeah they may enlist after finishing the concert in July.

that's possible but this is the best opportunity for chen, baek, and kai to start developing their solo careers before a 2 year break. unless they all have a plan to come back within 3 years to do full group promotions. but i still give those three longer before they'd enlist.

SM have been missing so many good opportunities for EXO. So many things could have been done for EXO as a group and as soloists. I think SM will mess with those 3 too.

that's true but like chen said he decided he wanted a solo and got it like that. i think sm will at least treat chen, baek and kai well this year. hopefully...

He’s my co-bias with Sehun. I’m not surprised that D.O. is enlisting early but it’s more of an approach actors use to keep their public image clean before their career completely peaks.

Yeah idk where those rumors came from. EXO's contract was confirmed to be a 10 year one after the escapees lawsuits. They aren't up for renewals until 2022.

If this has been in discussion for a while though him leaving could have just been going into the military

He could've gotten another 2 years of high profile acting jobs though, he was still on the rise, but I can see why he also might want to get it over with quickly.

I just have a weird feeling SM was trying to pull a snsd 2.0 on them by restricting some of their solo activities until now. Although I understand group activities make fans happy, solo activities and exploration keep kpop idols satisfied with their careers and allow them to make some extra $.
