Here’s a quote from the start of the article: “Simone Biles once reflected on an overwhelming incident that made her hesitant to learn a balance beam skill. The horrifying incident occurred when the gymnast was trying to master the Tkatchev on uneven bars.”

I was confused at first because they themselves say the Tkatchev is a bars skill, but I thought maybe she got scared of the Tkatchev and then went on beam and it spread to beam? But no. The article starts talking about beam, switches to bars when describing the scary incident, then switches back to beam when talking about she preforms the Tkatchev on beam at a competition. They had it wrong, made it right, then made it wrong again :umwhat: Google is your friend. And I get not knowing what a Tkatchev is, but did the person who proofread this not wonder a bit why they’re talking about 2 different events for one skill?

betcha 5 brownie points that they made the "everyone's intern" - GPT - do the research
Doubt it. ChatGPT seems too high of a level to write that nonsense :soob: Now im kind of curious what ai would give if i asked it

I haven't read the book myself so idk all the details about how it all happened, but ChatGPT at least could keep track of what skill she was doing and on what event :haylul:

Simone Biles Reflects on Fear and Failure While Learning the Tkatchev in Courage to Soar

By [Your Name]

Even the greatest athletes have moments of fear. For Olympic gymnastics legend Simone Biles, one of those moments came when she was learning the Tkatchev, a high-flying release move on the uneven bars. In her memoir, Courage to Soar, Biles opens up about how this skill, which requires gymnasts to let go of the high bar, soar through the air, and regrasp it, once filled her with overwhelming fear—and even caused her to freeze mid-routine.

Unlike many of the jaw-dropping skills Biles has become known for, the Tkatchev didn’t come naturally to her. During training, she struggled to commit to the release, hesitant to trust herself. Then, in a moment that stuck with her, she balked—swinging up to the point where she was supposed to let go, but instead stopping short, unable to follow through.

“I completely chickened out,” Biles recalls in her book. “I got up to the point where I was supposed to go, and I just didn’t.”

Balking on a skill can be dangerous in gymnastics, as hesitation mid-swing can throw off timing and increase the risk of falling. The experience rattled Biles, reinforcing the mental block that had already taken hold.

Despite her struggles, her coaches encouraged her to keep trying, emphasizing that every gymnast faces moments of doubt. Eventually, with persistence, patience, and a shift in mindset, Biles conquered the skill, proving to herself that even when fear seems paralyzing, it doesn’t have to be permanent.

Her story serves as a reminder that even the most fearless competitors have moments of doubt and hesitation. What sets champions apart is their ability to push through—just as Biles did with the Tkatchev, and just as she has done throughout her historic career.

Creativity? :pepelook: I didn't know doing one of the most common bar releases is creative. It can be but not usually. The rest gets a pass though
