Sorry I've been spacy lately - a tree fell on my house (2 Viewers)

If I missed a really important thread, let me know! I have a bad habit of going "eh, I probably don't need to look at these" for old notifications.

Also, for a tree falling on a house, I'm pretty lucky. I've got damage to the roof, siding, patio, fencing, etc. but most of the tree stayed out of the house and what came in didn't hit any major structural elements, no one's hurt, etc. It's been stressful and lots of contractors to manage, but could definitely be worse.

omg that sounds scary! When I was living at the blind home, there was an incident where a drunk guy drove straight into the dry cleaner's across the street - knocked out power for fourteen hours, from 3am to 5pm!

Thank you friends! I got the tree removed yesterday and a roofer put a tarp on it last night, which is just in time as it's raining this morning and supposed to rain tomorrow.

The insurance claims people are pretty slow, but my insurance agent called me and walked me through what to expect, so now I know it's just a matter of waiting for the inspector to come out and approve what type of work will be covered. I've got contractors lined up for the roof, siding, and rain garden, and I've got names of general contractors who I'm hoping can do basically everything else. So it's stressful, but there's a plan and I think that makes it feel a bit easier.

You always lift my spirits! I need to do some crochet, work some stress out. I've been thinking of making an outer space set... how murderous do you think astronauts are?

I had my palm trees removed just for that reason i didnt want em to fall on the house.

I'd even had multiple arborists come look at the tree in the last year! They all said the same thing: it could use some TLC, cut off some dead branches, fertilize, etc. but it was fine. So I'd spent money doing that just late last year.

The tree guy who removed it confirmed it didn't fall due to structural issues, it just got hit the right way by high enough winds.

I do want a new tree, just because I lost a tiny tree a few years ago in a storm and it's crazy how losing even a little bit of shade makes the house feel so much hotter. I figure... at least it'll take a long time before a new tree would be at risk of crushing my house again? All the other nearby trees in my neighborhood are all slanted away from my house, so this should -- fingers crossed -- be a once-in-a-lifetime nuisance.

I was watching something that was saying the problem is solo trees are just not that strong with the roots. They need others to make a network underground. Which is weird cuz roots get into everything, all the plumbing ect.
