I had watched this earlier today. I was kinda surprised with the low pay they got and kept getting even after Bar Bar Bar. It also amazes me how their company kept debuting groups yet Crayon Pop would have a debt with the company because when they were in America they didn't "make money" in Korea so had to pay them back. I think the change in CEO also made them all iffy to renew tbh. Also for Way her sake she should try doing live streams like Ellin does on Afreeca tv because she makes 10 times more than when she was in Crayon Pop if not more.

Sadly it wasn't that fun of interview, rather reminder that kpop companies are still scums that use and swindle idols. The working environment keeps being unhealthy as ever, no food no sleep tiring exercise, and the trainees debts are pretty disgusting.

The contract terms are extremely confusing even for entertainment contracts.
Entertainment historically has preyed on the artists.
I thought there was a standard ministry approved base contract in Korea though.

This sounds pretty consistent with what I've heard from other former idols, the only thing new is the trainee debt. It's not often you here ex-idols talking about that

Yes, the thing that surprised me the most from this interview was the fact that the company takes so much of their earnings and the debt thing.
It really brings you to the reality of how much these idols sacrifice and how hard they work to entertain us and in most cases they don't really have much to show for it if you don't make it.

Trainee debt is so viscous
Momoland still isn't being paid, it took Girl's Day about 4 years to pay off theirs

The bigger companies like SM do not have debt at all for the trainees. In fact the company buys stuff like apparel, living expenses if from out of city or country ect for them.
Taking out bank loans was a new detail i had not heard of.

gfriend took 2-3 monsters to get into the black.
I though i read Lovelyz was still not in the black although i struggle to believe that.
Fromis has no debt i think so that is good for them too.
I don't think rainbow ever got all the way out.

If the company is really small, dorms, living expenses and practice areas may not be a factor

Grace (ex-Laboum trainee) had her dorm and living expenses taken care of until the company started going under, then the trainees had to move into a rundown apartment together. Sojin (Girl's Day) had to work dozens of odd jobs to pay her rent and live on an extremely limited budget until Dream T moved her into a dorm
