Ever since the promotions of Power Up kpoppies have been saying Red Velvet is going down the F(X) path and SM is debuting a new girl group.
I understand that their new music is trash but F(X) never got thrown questionable music when a new girl group was about to debut. Experimental music was F(X)'s whole thing and it was never bad to the point where people thought SM was giving up on them. Are we forgetting that F(X) owns the kpop bible and after Sulli left and the group was pleaded with scandals they came back with 4 walls?
I feel like people need to throw Red Velvet a bone because it's a norm for SM to give their groups a new urrr... concept...(sure, that works) once they reach a certain elevation in their career. GG had IGAB, a lot of Shinee's songs from 2009-2011, etc etc.
My point is, Zimzalabim doesn't deserve that much hate despite how much of a noise machine it is. It is the most "kpoppy" song we've gotten in a while. When was the last time we had proper stage costumes instead of Fashion Nova outfits and random high end brands with big logos? SM's stylist is tragic, yes. We been knew, there isnt one fandom that hasn't tried to pull up in Hongdae on an Unnie.
The next fat ass elephant in the room that I should address is SM not putting anymore effort into Red Velvet. Literally what? If we want to look at a group that SM doesn't care about let's look at EXO. SM has taken the time to hype up THREE comebacks for Red Velvet. They're getting reality shows, world tours, etc etc. Zimzalabim also revisits their past songs and theres a lot of cute Easter eggs for fans. Imo SM cares about Red Velvet as much as NCT but are treated differently because of the different priorities for these groups. Luvies eat every little crumb SM gives us for Red Velvet while Nctzens can't even get NCT a win on the show. You see my point?
