What do you think is a best friend? (1 Viewer)

I once saw a youtube video describing a best friend in the youtuber's opinion of what constitutes a best friend. It basically was a supportive and considerate person. Surprisingly there were much people who disagreed. For many; a best friend was a brutally honest person; because a best friends looks to help you be your best. I don't fully agree; but I'm not the best person to describe a best friend since I basically have never have real friends. What do you think? What is a best friend? Something I'm sure about; it's not a bully like someone said, "a best friend is someone who bullies you...". If you look for bullies to be friends; sorry, but there is something wrong with you.

A best friend you can beat with the news paper and they'll go get the next step up and teach you not to mess with them. But then you both are laughing in the end. Yeah you can-oh why lie-DO bully each other, but there is a fine understanding, a thin line, between what is to far and what it acceptable. It's an unspoken line we just know.

Example: My best friend is gay. I call him a fruit because he's colorful, I call him a fairy because he flitters here and there-god knows where he is on planet earth one day to the next. But should I mention the F word that ends with a G that's going WAY to far. I don't ever go that far, unless he's ignoring me for to logn and I want to attention. But not in real life because he can run faster hten me.

A best friend no matter how much you neglect them, and run away from them they will always some be found/find you in the end.

A best friend won't hesitate to laugh at your mistakes and tease you for them. They'll also be there to be your moral support, and they won't drag you down at your worst.

A best friend won't surgar coat things, and will tell straight up the truth even if it hurts.

Well in my opinion a best friend is someone who'll listen to all your bs without judging you, who'll help you and support you when you are happy, but also when you are down. A person who won't message you only because they need you, but even to check if you arrived safe at home. Indeed, it's a person who'll tell you if for example an outfit is not good looking, because it is better if a close person is saying this and not a random one. About the bullying part... I think bully is a harsh word. Me and my best friend have jokes that may seem offensive for some, but we don't mean those words, we only joke. And I don't know, I just know that my best friend is someone I can trust and I can't talk about anything with.

I think a true best friend is someone who isn't afraid to tell you that you're wrong and correct you're mistakes but they still support you. Someone who supports you and shares your happiness with you.

Me and my best friends don't hug often and none of us a very good at comforting at each other (we try our best TT) but we still feel connected and content around each other.

I find it interesting that we all have different views on what a best friend should be but it all comes down to a few core values (this is based off the posts above):
- trust
- laughter
- comfort &
- support

Resolve dear, resolve. You look at that food, your best friend and you're like "Nope you aren't going to make me watch."

Well it depends what you mean by bullying. Being a legpuller or making a joke at someone's expense is something that friends do. A friend will listen to you when you complain about not being able to afford a cable bill. A best friend will offer to cover the bill. Essentially, relationships are denoted by exchanges. Love is a cornerstone of any friendship. Love may be a feeling, but more so is an action.

Second, a friend will defend you when you are wrong. A best friend won't compromise their ethics; such a friend will want the best for you, which includes getting you all the way together by telling you what changes you need to make or when you are dead ass wrong.

A best friend will tell you that your bf/gf is a loser even if the risk of a termination of such friendship occurs based on this.

Essentially, being a best friend is expressed through honestly, love, charity, and altruism.
