Is it sexist to call someone a 'pussy' in a negative light? (1 Viewer)

So, I have been hearing the word 'pussy' when someone is saying that someone is scared and is a negative word.
However, for a positive meaning, we usually say 'you've got the balls to do it!'.

So my question is, do you think these are sexist remarks or do you think that they are just harmless fun?

I have listened to a motivational podcast and the guy who does it always uses 'pussy' as a negative term and 'balls' as a positive term.
Yet, he said that when he says 'pussy', he doesn't mean the female genitalia, but when he says 'you've got no balls to go through with it', wouldnt that mean he is using these words as genital words because he is using 'pussy' as negative and 'balls' as positive?

You know, I've only just realized that, so I take this back.
But you are correct when we call people names like 'Dick', 'Prick', 'Cunt', etc that because we are saying insults to not just one gender, then it can't really be sexist.
It was my mistake and I admit that I am wrong.

Well I'm sure the roots lie in sexist attitudes, at this point Idk if it wpuld really be accurate to say they're used in sexist manners. Dick is also used in a negative light but it has a different meaning so its not exactly the same thing.

I'm personally ok with plp using words like that, "pussy", "balls", "dick", "slut" and "bitch", but i think it's still good to pay attention to how you are using the words and what your intents are. Like I have noticed that some guys and why not girls too only use word "bitch" towards women, and this is bit disturbing to me cause I use it sometimes but i see it as quite genderneutral, boys can also be bitchy right. And ofc it's not always negative word, i think some women use it in empowering way. Words themselves aren't good or bad, but they carry meanings and intentions.

True... and some words seem to have completely lost their meaning... Call someone lame or a bugger or an idiot and odds are you aren't invoking slurs against those with physical and mental disabilities, or homosexuals.

But in this case yes it is sexist, and his reasoning is stupid. If you're not talking about the female genitalia then what were you referring to??? An actual cat?? Why would a cat be considered cowardly if lions and tigers are constantly used to reference strength and power? Anyway, I say "in this case" because it depends on persons intent. There's something iffy about the way the guy uses something associated with females for being weak or cowardly but something associated with males to be strong or brave.

His name is Andy Frisella and he is actually very aggressive in his approach and although he does give out a good message, he swears (curses) a lot and like I have said before, he likes to use the word Pussy and Balls a lot.

I do agree that it depends on someone's intent and in this particular instance, he says 'pussy' to refer to someone as weakness and 'balls' to refer to someone that goes out there and gets things done.

Yeah, I already posted and this thread is old, but I don't think I read the entire post, because this was new to me. To my point: I think balls and pussy have become colloquialisms.. Sort of like, "Don't be a bitch" is short form for stop being a coward and "man up" is just a synonym for grow tf up... But depending on the motivational speaker it may be different, as being sexist and a motivational speaker aren't really mutually exclusive. Its sort of like how people (back in the early 00's) would say "That dude is totally hot right now. No homo."

It's just a bad word in general. I think is offensive, but sexist I am not entirely sure. Words like cunt, pussy, bitch etc. It shouldn't be used in female company. Well that's what dad always taught me.

Any word with a degrading or put down sense to it. It really shows you as a person, if that's all your vocab consists of.
