I wouldn't completely blame it on them but the mental health services that they're providing to their artists needs to improve.
They need to step take better care of their artists.

It's not an "sm" thing it's a mental health in Korea thing. Even talking about it has a huge stigma. That and there are a lot of knetz who don't think before they type. Either that, or they genuinely don't care that they're so cruel to people which is outright depressing

Lee Soo Man actually loved her, and protected her as much as he could. SM himself really isn't the problem, it's the company. And the company can only do so much, especially as we're talking about Korea. Where mental illness is seen as a disease.

Facts.
This is not a problem of kpop companies or fandom culture, it's the South korean society that needs to address the issue as whole. As you said, they do have really high suicide levels but there's no public policy to educate their population about it. Of course, the super restrictive idol life doesn't help on this cases but the main problem relies on the way koreans treat mental illness, how their social norms and taboos are affecting people's lives. Not an easy task for sure but let's hope no one else has to die for them to start making a change.

I think that South Korea just needs to bring its standards down and stop thinking that idols should be perfect all the time. I mean some of the things sulli got hate for was absolutely ridiculous. I also think that kpop companies need to really focus on mental health for their trainees and idols, I mean when you look at some of the shit these idols went through during their trainee days, it's absolutely crazy how they even got through it all. Like I get that the companies have changed over the years and theyre starting to put an emphasis on mental health but I think that there's still a strong effect on 2nd gen idols and 3rd gen idols who had to endure that trainee process and the scrutiny of the general public and were never really able to talk or get help for it because it was just seen as something you had to do to debut. im not saying that 4th gen idols dont get hate but I think that the kpop industry is way more open-minded about certain things then they were in the 3rd and 2nd gen. it's still shit but its not as shitty as it was.

this is not a sm thing. it‘s a general korean thing. Mental health isn‘t taken seriously there. Also Korea has one of the highest suicide rates for a reason.

I don't know if it's coincidence with SM or not, apparently there was actor as well in SM who passed away cause of suicide. As we know this hasn't happened to that many company, though clearly mental health is a issue with lot of kpop artist and many have spoken about it. Depression, social anxiety, panic disorder, anorexia, bulimia.. lot of idols are suffering. So not sure if SM is not doing enough compared to others, but the industry clearly isn't best for it's people. There is definitely some things companies could do as well though all the blame isn't on them.

Mental health is a huge taboo in Korea. Only until a tragedy happens are Koreans willing to discuss it. This has nothing to do with SM.

It could be a really bad coincidence and with Jonghyun you could give them the benefit of the doubt but now with Sulli it makes me question what they are doing as BoA did reveal in one of her interviews that she partly takes care of the mental health of younger people in SM so they do have something but is it enough?

Let's not forget that these past few years, the gp is treating SM harshly and criticizing every thing they do (just look at all their latest comeback and the reactions on it)
These artists are the most vulnerable for hate comments at this very moment.
They do get enough professional help but that won't change the reactions they get by malicious commenters.

A comeback being disliked is way different than being hated as a whole and you can say about your but that means nothing to me as it does nothing to explain what help. There's a big difference in being helped by BoA and an actual psychologist/therapist. For the Jonghyun part again how does him being depressed before going into SM do anything? No one sane is saying SM caused his depression what's in question is whether they did as much as they could to help them which I'll give a pass on Jonghyun as it was the first time anything like it happened so maybe they weren't prepared cause they didn't think it would go that far

Jonghyun did go to a professional, the professional told him that it was his fault though which again seems to be a problem with Korea more so than the company. Taeyeon also goes to a professional and takes medication, so I think we can assume that the option to go to a professional for treatment is open. Suicide rates also do increase when someone in your community commits suicide, which I also think may have had a factor in why SM has more than other companies.

I did know the Jonghyun got told to get more sun or something which you say a problem is with Korea however let me tell you a story that I heard from a streamer which is that he was really angry to the point of wanting to kill people and went to see someone about it and that persons advice was eating more eggs and they live in Australia. Getting good mental health care is just hard in general no matter where are you from, you got a 50/50 chance of going to a good specialist like Taeyeon must be or like Jonghyun who wanted him to get a tan but as for how it relates back to SM well your guess at how SM handles it is as good as mine as it's behind closed doors so maybe they are doing everything they can and Sulli ws vunerable at that moment and made that decision but we can't truly know.

I hope this isn't victim-blaming as im not 100% sure abt this: do you think tat the depressed will be ok 24/7 even w/treatment?
Idk if R**** W*******, A****** B*******, K*** S****, G** H*** were under treatment? But other than putting them on 24hr suicide prevention observation, I believe they hv to keeep going for treatment.
My thot is if T****** doesn't want to be under 24 hr observation, n if she ever decided to nobody could stop her. I believe she has to want to go for treatment, be treated by a professional n never succumb to her demons; obviously I know zilch about her but I worry about this, especially after the recent events this year.
I do worry less but deep within I wrestle with the possibility.
SM alone can't be 100% responsible unless the artist hands them the responsibility as well as the authority.
I don't know if anyone wants that.

its been 2 years, I don't think a 2 years ago event is key here. Unless you mean someone else from SM/kpop idol is vulnerable now. I hope they get the help necessary, but I still believe no one can force them, unless they give SM the responsibility. I do believe their contracts kinda do give them the responsibility/authority obliquely but if they(SM) had direct responsibility I would be against tat. Maybe joint responsibility, kinda how JYPE/Mina seem to be handling it.

dint know abt mental health professionals doing this, so maybe more reason to lay off SM abt this unless SM brings in Korean speaking foreign professionals maybe.
Just hoping for the best for Taeyeon n all other kpop artists tat they get well n all live long healthy successful lives.
