Hello everyone, Ven here.
Some of you may know me, others may not.
For those that do, I'm that incredibly devoted Wonho stan.
As you can imagine, if you've heard what is happening to Monsta X right now, you know it hasn't been a good week. November 1st, Wonho left Monsta X due to the cruelty that is public expectations for idols. Two women, two truly awful people who I will NOT be naming here, conspired to bring back his past, a past that Wonho had done everything to move on from and grow beyond. They alleged he owed money, had a criminal record, and it was revealed he was under investigation for drug use.
Normally, that would be it, but this isn't a normal situation. The allegations against him are from 6 years ago, before he was a member of Monsta X. As far as anyone is aware, he moved on from that part of his life and has done nothing but grow and mature. Monbebes decided that there is no reason that someone who has shown they're no longer that person should have to pay for mistakes they made in their youth. In a move that is essentially unprecedented, both Korean and International fans are protesting Wonho's removal from the group. Here's just a few of the things that have been going on:
-Fans have been trending hashtags worldwide for going on three days, staying in the top 5 WW
-Over 400k people have signed a petition to bring Wonho back
-Over $20k has been raised for an ad in Times Square
-Other projects have popped up
-There was a silent protest in front of the Starship building
-Fancafe staff have changed the rules regarding letters to members and have even sent in letters to Wonho themselves
-Multiple Western kpop journalists have spoken out in support of Wonho
-Chinese fans had support flags placed on the street in front of Starship
This is no longer just a fight for Wonho. This is a fight for every idol. Every time something bad happens, we say we're going to try harder for idols, to stand against the bullying they receive, well this is our chance. Wonho made mistakes, he acknowledges this, but he's also done nothing but show he is not the person he used to be. Idols are held to unreasonable, inhuman standards. They are expected to never make mistakes, never show weakness, always be pleasing fans...Where does that leave them any ability to function on a normal level? Can you imagine the immense pressure they must feel to avoid almost every aspect of normal life for fear of making a career ending error? Even as I write this, Shownu is under fire for things he's done. It's time we all stand together and say we won't support this cancel culture any longer.
For my ult.
For your ult.
For everyone who has ever deserved another chance.
