Favorite Musical Songs/Scenes

Musicals are magical.

That mix of traditional theatre/narrative film set to grand scores, heartfelt ballads, and wondrous dance splendor.

They are a gem of the theatre and film world. Bringing imagination and beauty to fans around the world.

Central to their wonder.... Are the songs. The scenes where great music frames and lifts the visual action, paints it in a color that only a musical can reach, giving it a special kind of resonance all its own.

2007's Sweeney Todd is one of my favorite musicals of all time.

The song My Friends stands at the emotional center, acting as core expression not the main character's purpose, his obsession, his decent into dark revenge.

This scene is one of my favorite scenes from any film ever. The combination of the music's rise at 1:20 with the camera panned out to show Sweeney Todd lifting his razor to the sky in almost uplifting fashion gives me chills. It's beautiful and moving even in it's dark pronouncements. I've long desired to have a poster made of that exact shot, where his arm is extended to the ceiling while Mrs. Lovett looks on. The imagery is iconic. The song itself is a beautiful and dark ballad, almost romantic in it's embrace of murderous and epic anticipation.

I don't watch musicals often, but I think kdrama What's Up is musical. Tons of songs too, both solo, duets and group. Has some kpop stars like Daesung and Jiwon (ex-Spica). Songs were included well to plot and had quite vast collection of different genres.

I don't watch that many musical films so I don't have much experience. I heard D.O (EXO) was to be on a musical film so I watched that one. It's called 'Swing Kids'.

I watched it on a whim but it's one of my favourite movies of all time. The emotion, the feels, just about everything was mindblowing. One of my favourite scenes has to be this one:

I can't find a video of the whole scene unfortunately so I can only explain it. The movie is about the war between North and South Korea and how many different people unite through Tap Dancing. I guess I can't really explain it that well. You have to watch it to know the backstory. But what I love about this scene is that sense of freedom. They're all physically and mentally trapped but they can find freedom with something as simple as dancing. It brings them together despite being far away. There is just so much meaning behind a few simple lines.

Pal lae (girl): Communism. Capitalism. If no one knew what they were, no one would kill or be killed

Jackson (the main you see sitting down at the beggining of the video): Well maybe after a while, you'll all remember you're one people and stop fighting over ideology

Man (laughs): Fucking ideology

Pal lae (girl), hold tap shoes in the air: You know what? These are magic shoes. When I wear them: war, food, miserable things - they all just disappear.

Due to a miss spent youth...(lol) I have seen many many musicals.
I may or may not own a raft on dvd or vcr tape....
And i certainly do not have 40-50 soundtracks

My grandfather taught HS and my sister and I were visiting on a day when they showed this movie to the school(on film gasp) so we went.
must have been before Christmas or Thanksgiving.

I LOVE SWEENY TODD. My friends is just so chilling. I also really love the songs/scenes when the backstory is explained via poor thing. it makes you understand the characters and the motivation so much more.

From my favorite musicals I love the good old funeral of Bohemia in Rent.


It‘s just such a fun song with a deeper meaning in the context of the musical. There are other scenes I love. I honestly love everything in this musical and stiöö cry on certain parts whenever I watch it.

Now on to Rocky Horror... I obviously thing Time Warp is iconic. But I am also a sucker for Sweet Transvistate. The introduction of Frank N. Furter is just a classic and so fun to watch.
