please leave the loud noisy edm drops in 2019! (1 Viewer)

im sick of this sound, please leave this shit in 2019, It was okay at first until literally every kpop group in existence transitioned over to this sound and I don't know why?? maybe in hopes of gaining an international audience?? well, whatever it is It needs to stop. one of the reasons why 2019 was so dry and saturated is because every single comeback was this same exact style! I love bp but I can't forgive them for starting this trend with ktl. but at least ktl had a melody and some good verses.

instead, they all need to aspire to be the best title track of 2019, miss queen psycho, a pop r&b work of art with a unique concept, and heavenly vocals:

idk about that, d4 wasn't really like the songs that I mentioned. only ktl was. d4 was definitely more catchy, it had an actual drop that was good and had good verses. everything before d4 wasn't really noisy and any EDM that they put out was actually really good. I don't think bp will do anything more with this sound, I think they're doing a lighter concept this time around and hopefully, other groups follow.

I'd definitely categorize Boombayah as an edm drop based sound and d4 too. Playing with Fire also now that I think about it, but yo a lesser extent. Liking it or not is another question, I like drops like that if they're good. But whether good or not I still think they count.

they're different from what I'm talking about though. I don't hate edm, in fact, a lot of my favorite songs have edm elements. I mean I listen to kpop, if I hated edm I probably would have stopped listening a while ago. But the trend in 2019 of just being noisy for no reason is getting old. its kinda the same thing with the tropical house trend, it was good until every group basically released the same song.

It won't change until something invokes it to change which requires starting another trend because girl crush is the trend right now for girl groups and when it comes to that concept groups try and release club music which means they'll give it a drop. The only girl group I could see swinging things away from girl crush is if Iz*One can get a big hit.

Like every genre, it really depends on the song and artist. I would not consider myself a fan of EDM or drops, but Wonderland and So What are bold and richly produced, to where I can't fault them for being noisy; they are meant to be bangers, and they are enjoyable bangers at that. Wonderland especially, ATEEZ just pull off the delivery well to drive home the epicness of the track (pirate concept best concept). Whereas Adios just falters because it comes off as flimsy and generic, in my opinion.

Like Vikki and Kiseki mentioned, it has been and still is the trend to release dance tracks, and I think it is just more exciting to promote one in front of fans versus something slow like a ballad. At least there are a variety of sounds and genres in albums, and of course there are soloists (I am duty-bound to promote soloists).

I was mostly referring to the horns that were used in the songs I mentioned, that's why I timestamped them to specific parts. I don't think the songs are bad and I actually enjoy a few. and I don't hate edm, I just hate the over usage of the same sound to the point where every group is basically releasing the same song.

The manner in which the horns are employed are somewhat different in each song, though. I actually think it is characteristic of / impactful in some (Wonderland), out of place on others (Kill This Love), or serve little purpose (Adios). But really, horns are just instruments commonplace in this overarching K-pop EDM trend, and if it wasn't horns, it would be something else.

Alright that makes more sense. Each to their own, it's overdone for sure. I still love a lot of the songs though, they're usually my favorites. Also I think they're different enough, personally for me ballads sound a lot more generic and the type.

I agree with the ballads, i cant stand straight up ballads, its boring and its all the same. I prefer pop ballads tbh. but yes its definitely a subjective opinion, I don't think that any of these songs are bad, I really did not mind this type of music at first. it's just that when every group hopped on, it just wasn't enjoyable. I think one of the big appeals about kpop is that there are a lot of different types of sounds from different groups so when everyone is releasing the same type of song it becomes over-saturated.

I think that horns when overused just makes the song sound so messy if that makes sense? idk yes the horns serve a different purpose in each song but, for me personally, I don't enjoy it when horns are used every 5 seconds in a song for no real reason other than to sound "impactful". there are so many other different sounds that can be used, this type of genre is just saturated to the point where, as I said, every group is basically releasing the same song with a few subtle differences.
