Whats your opinion?

For me, as the title says I think they all should have one.
It's just fair for the groups that actually bother showing up.

I agree that groups like BTS for example don't really have to show up anymore because they have gained enough prestige and attention (which is a reason for ppl want their groups to win, at least that is the reason I see most), so wins for them wouldn't really have any meaning anymore, they are getting literally all of the other achievements one can think of so why not at least let lesser known groups have a bigger shot at winning. They are earning so much money that a win on a music show, these days, just seems really insignificant compared to all the other achievements they are able to top?

Or let's take someone else, there are a bunch of songs like that co-ed group Rain made, or JYP's song with Sunmi when they didnt attend that they won iirc. I just think it's really unfortunate for all the other groups who take their time for it.

Yes
I feel the shows exist to get folks to watch them.
If the act is not there for eyeballs at the very least once in the comeback then they are DQ and none of their numbers count/exist.
Preferably for each show unless like say dream concert was pre scheduled ect.

I feel the same about award shows. if they cant be bothered to show up then so sorry. Heck even tele conferencing in now after this would make some sense if say they were double booked.

Just had a discussion about this the other day.

I believe music shows all need to have an attendance requirement and win limit. Music shows are meant as promotion for these artists, and it costs companies thousands of dollars to promote on them. Wins are seen as confirmation someone has "made it" and can up an artist's value greatly. At this point it's incredibly insulting to all the artists who go through the work of promoting to hand the win to someone who applied no effort for it and isn't even there to accept. It also decreases interest in music shows, because everyone knows if an artist like BTS is nominated, they'll win. There's no reason to watch to the end of the show, there's no excitement, no competition. Artists like BTS & BLACKPINK have moved beyond the need for music shows. It doesn't gain them a following, it's basically just a participation trophy with no meaning. Not to mention it detracts from the show to give the award to a non-attending artist, because then the end of the music show is just a bunch of people clapping awkwardly to no one. No encore stage, no cute antics, nothing. It's also rude to the artists who do show up, forced to stay for live filming when they know they won't win and could be using their time for other things. You'll never get fans of top artists to agree, though, because they'd rather see music shows loosen the rules so their faves can set records for the number of wins in a single comeback or number of wins in a career. It's not even about promotion, cool stages, or getting to check out other groups anymore, just a sick need to be the best, no matter what. Plus they don't usually care about the other artists promoting, so what's the point in them even watching?

Music shows are an investment in an artist's future. Wins are precious in the case of smaller company artists. Just look at Pristin, I fully believe their future would have been different if they'd gotten a win. So many amazing groups fall because so much rides on their careers being validated by these shows. When you look at small company artist's wins, especially first wins after years of promotion, the emotions for these idols are so raw because they know how much rides on such an unfair system.

Not to mention, with the spread of kpop overseas, none of these shows have chosen to adapt to allow international fans to participate, even going so far as to try and make it harder for I-fans to get their faves a win. Metrics are weighted heavily on Korean platforms that require Korean phone number verification for streams and votes to count. Imagine how disheartening it must be for an artist to know they have a large fandom, only to be told by these music shows they're not good enough essentially because their fans aren't Korean.

I always used to think when bigger groups were attending that if they perform, that their fans will watch it and might discover new groups to listen to etc. but that isnt even possible anymore with non attending big groups, definitely agree with everything youve written as well

These big groups getting wins without lifting a finger is just going to kill these shows. People will stop watching at some point, because they know their faves aren't going to bother so why should they?

Another issue I have is the fact that Dynamite and Ice Cream have been allowed to win on music shows. Those aren't kpop songs, they're just English pop songs. I say this as someone whose ult group put out a full English album, but I do not think songs in languages other than Korean should be allowed to win, especially with no Korean promo.

I think they should all have one as well, it just doesn’t seem fair to the groups that actually did show up.

I certainly think changes are needed with music shows. a lot of things are unfair.

Most of the shows already having additional points for live attendance with the only one that doesn't being Show! Music Core and that's a very digitally heavy show and there is also a Triple Crown for a few shows being The Show, Show Champion and Inkgayo where a group can only win 3 times and M Countdown where you need to be promoting somewhere to be able to win.

I think if there were changes to be made than it would just have to be that you need to be promoting in some way to be able to win since I don't think the truly digital successful artists should be punished when they aren't farming wins unless their song is doing really well if they're still going onto shows promoting the song but for a scenario like BTS where they promote for 2 weeks and then dip but still win for like 3 weeks after then it can get ridiculous.

At this point yg acts like BB ikon and to a smaller extent bts (what even happened to them saying they would never release in English?) are about as kpop as kid rock is rap.
21 and bp are in the same boat about as kpop as taylor swift is country after dipping the toes in.

The point of hallyu ( which pisses of a lot of i fans ) was to spread kpop culture out not bring western culture in.
The government got behind this and pushed it to the networks as a positive role model deal, and some thing that would make Korea look hard working and successful. Prove that they could change the world and help give focus to a population stuck on a peninsula with an ongoing war hanging over head and opportunities drying up. Classic bread and circus's.

Yg's acts are so successful because they tap into the counter culture that wants to fight against that . kind of sex drugs and rock n roll if ya will :)

About the only traditionally Korea element i see yg is hard core about is the seniority system and he really treats the genders differently.

I think that an attendance rule would be good but I don't agree that there should be a in cap, just because I think that if they are still showing up every week and the song is that big of a hit then the group deserves the trophies. Like, I love how Momoland got a shit ton of wins for Bboom Bboom because the song was a hit and they kept on promoting it non-stop, I respect the work ethic that goes into that.
