2. It’s actually Moscow, though St Petersburg has been a important city for Russia for a long time. It’s also gorgeous tbh.
3. The answer is 11, it really stretches long in that direction.
4. The lake is called Lake Baikal, it’s not the biggest lake by surface area (I think that’s Lake Superior, unless you count the Caspian Sea or Lake Michigan-Huron), but it’s big enough by surface area and pretty deep, so that’s how it’s at the top in that category. Though if you count Caspian Sea again for volume, it overtakes Lake Baikal, but it’s not freshwater.
5. It was the Mongols, they conquered the area where Kievan Rus was. Kievan Rus was centered in Europe in Eastern Europe for the most part.
6. Romeo and Juliette was the one, it was first performed in the Czech Republic/Czechoslovakia.

8. The US bought it. Russia needed money and didn’t feel it was worth defending and preferred to barter with the US then certain other countries. But it’s also why some areas in Alaska speak a form of Russian, the fact that they were part of Russia at first.

don Quixote just seemed less cross culturally relevant, like would appeal less to people broadly regardless of culture or have less general appeal or like Spanish culture would play a bigger part in the story than I guess “English culture” idk for Romeo and Juliette tho ofc themes are overarching

Romeo and Juliette was popular among educated Russians yes, but Don Quixote was too, throughout a lot of Europe. Some of Russias top writers said Don Quixote impacted their works, or made references to Don Quixote within their writing. Given the politics of Russia (and other countries too) the material itself felt it was relevant at the time. At least that's what information I'm finding, which makes sense with what knowledge I have about the popularity of Don Quixote at the time.

Oh, well given that it was translated to Russian before I'm guessing the adapting might not be too hard, otherwise the translated book itself wouldn't have been popular among Russians, not if the culture or language was too unrelatable.
