Alcohol and age restriction: 18 or 21? (1 Viewer)

now I don´t drink at all, so why would I care. but do you think the age restriction should be lower (for those who are allowed to drink at 21) or higher (for those who can drink at 18 or even 16)???

is that of any importance?
does your country have a problem with underage drinking? here everyone gets drunk starting at the age of 12. it´s not a big deal to get a bottle of vodka, bear or whatever you want despite the legal age being 18. someone might ask for your ID (supermarkets mostly) but pubs or small stores don´t.

Most people in the US drink before 21 I’m pretty sure. I don’t see the point of it being so high if everyone’s doing it anyways.

I 100% agree for America to be 21 and for NZ to be 18
But American's dont really abide by the 21+ drinking law as kids come to school hungover all the time.

It's 16 where I live and people still drink before that anyway so it's not exactly something that's enforced and makes it pretty pointless anyway

It's 16 where I live and people still drink before that anyway so it's not exactly something that's enforced and makes it pretty pointless anyway

which is exactly my problem too. the enforcement of the law. I think 16 is ok, but the fact that you can get alcohol SO EASILY is something that is really scary. ok, a drunk 17-year-old? ehh, understandable, but a 12-year-old? it´s like that restriction doesn´t even need to exist :D

Alcohol gets a pass with most people just because it's so ingrained in people that it's normal but alcohol isn't something the body is supposed to have either

New Zealanders are actually kiwi.
But i was adopted from sheep land and i have very low alcohol tolerance unlike, 67% of Americans

under the assumption that everyone is a good, law-abiding citizen 21, but realistically that's not going to happen so 18, may as well give safer options

personally i would love to do what ever but enforce it. ofc they never enforce drinking laws cuz the politicians are lushes.


its piss poor policy to teach that the law can be broken at will and it does not really matter .... until it does.

well if there is any enlistment at all. I find it interesting that in the States it is 21, yet you can drive a car at 16. but that´s probably the same question most Europeans ask :D

almost every country has a military with an induction age.

16 is hard wired into America now even if it made sense that will never change. and its really 15 and 7 months when most state allow permits so you can drive with an other person to practice.

agh well, true. but here you can go to a specialised high school which is at age of 15/16 but you can´t become a serving soldier before 18 so, hmm maybe that makes sense.

Americans must be excellent drivers because when I see drivers here and they are older it scares me just crossing.

well insurance for 16-21, is crazy if you are not on the parents policy.

and driving is really necessary for non vertical city residents if you want to work.

it´s not like in other countries people don´t live in remote areas and somehow they manage. but I am not criticising it, I just find it really surprising. I also think it is because in the States, the roads look wider and straighter? maybe easier to navigate? but don´t take me wrong I don´t drive, everything is a maze to me. can´t imagine driving at my age, 18 and 16 is like... I am astonished :D

i went i think end of summer.

My dad drove them, for that trip.

I just remember i even had a special license( at 16) that allowed me to drive up to semi's ( although i did not drive big rigs. it was more for insurance to drive company trucks at work)
