So I'm trying to expand outside of idol pop

Does anyone have any hip hop, ballad, indie/folk groups and soloist I should check out?

So in the vain of people like Roy Kim, Akmu, Davichi, Ailee, Dean, Mirae, etc etc.

Also can people suggest the best way to get into Bolbbalgan4 ?

:sanapray:. Bless Bolbbalgan4 (check out everything but I'd start out by listening to Galaxy and Some). I'd also recommend checking out Urban Zapaka and Ben. 4Men is good too and MC the Max has very beautiful ballads as well.

i have 1 soloist that fits perfectly, he is not an "idol" in the traditional sense, he sings ballads, pop, opera, traditional folk song. and he is currently competing on a US tv show called worlds best. He said this will be the last competition he does so if you can find it i highly recommend watching it while it is still on :D

His name is Dimash Kudaibergenov, and he is the most talented singer in the world. That is not an exaggeration, he has been professionally trained since age 5 and he is 24 now, he has a 6 octave 2 semitone range and he is a half step away from hitting the guiness world records highest note, despite it he does not lose the beautiful emotion and tone. His technique is near perfect you can ask almost any vocal coach.

he also has song in 12 languages so you can have a high chance to find a song you understand :D

I've heard of him. I like him but I meant Korean artist and I don't enjoy opera esque music as listening music.. But I'll check the videos out, thanks.

Okay, seriously get into Bol4! They're so talented and amazing :maheart:
Travel is their upbeat, fun, summer song that you can blast loud on a long car ride
To My Youth is a slower, sadder song
Starlight is a chill song that's cute without being cutesy

To expand on them, SBGB are really good and are basically the epitome of coffeehouse background music

Vanilla Acoustic is another one of my favorites.

Both of them kind of fall into the indie/alternative style.

As for ballads/soloists, I'm safe to assume that you've heard a lot of IU's songs, right? She has some AMAZING ballads
