I have seen time and time again how people are bitching and moaning about how the rich are always f***ing them over when in reality it is false.
I agree that there are some privileged, selfish, entitled rich people who don't care for anyone but themselves, however, the majority of rich people do have rags to riches stories who have worked their butts off to get where they are today.

As a society, we have been taught that having money is the root of all evil, when in fact, money is neither good or bad, but if you have it, it means you can have more possibilities.

Money doesn't make people change into a mean, nasty person who doesn't give a shit. It just means that the person was not very nice to begin with and can now do more bad with that money.

If you think about it, rich people actually pay more taxes than everyone else, do more charity work than everyone else, help others more than everyone else, etc, but of course the media portrays them as being the complete opposite.

It's also not all about the money, but it's what you do with the money that counts and if you want to use that money to do bad, then you will do bad in a big way and if you want to use that money to do good, then you will do good in a big way.

I'm not rich myself...YET, however, I will become rich in the future and I am working hard towards that goal. It's not because I just want the money though, it's because I want to make the world a better place and I will receive a lot of money doing it.

Hmh. I have bit different view I guess. Not that all rich people are evil.. and I don't see them actually portrayed such. But definitely think they are often born in those riches or at least opportunities that made it possible. Not that most of them haven't worked for it, but everybody works hard on what they got. Someone's wealth has no indication on how hard working they are, I think it's jsut indiciation how lucky they have been.

Rather than people having wrong picture of rich people, though depending what even is considered rich, I think it's other way around. People often have wrong picture of those that are "poor", that they are just lazy.

But why do you think this way about them? Have you seen how they got to that position? Have you experienced rich people in real life like you are making them to be? Or do you just see because of the media telling you so and other people's opinion about them that then made up your world view?

No it's not about media per say. Ofc I can't know everyone's exact circumstances, but from people I know and just living the life I guess. I'd definitely say luck is major factor, though connections are always good too. And I think simply being rich or poor can give u different outlook on life and your opportunities. If you grow up poor you gotta work harder to compensate.. or just get lucky which is ofc lot easier.

It really depends on the case. There are definitely rich people that are exactly how you described it but there are also those that do not care about anything else but themselves and how they are perceived by the society

Ok, but why would luck be involved if they have worked hard to get to where they are? Wouldn't that be more like 'Fortunate'?
I can agree with you to some extent, but there are a lot more rich people who grew up poor than rich people who grew up rich already, wouldn't you agree? Wouldn't you also agree that they saw an opportunity and got to work to aim towards the goals they have set themselves?
Also, wouldn't you agree, to earn a lot of money and to keep it is to do with a mindset that is set towards achieving your goals? Why do you think so many lottery winners either go back to square one or are worse off after? It's because they don't have the mindset to handle all of that money, right?

I know many rich people (as that is who I am trying to surround myself with) who have slept in their cars or their start-up stores and didn't have a penny to their name, but because of their determination and willingness to succeed, they made it successfully.

It really depends on the case. There are definitely rich people that are exactly how you described it but there are also those that do not care about anything else but themselves and how they are perceived by the society
Yes, this is true, but it can also be said for anyone, whether you are rich, middle class or poor.

They were lucky to get that opportunity in first place. That's the hardest part, to find the door and get it open.

If we are discussing about just about working hard then those in lowest paying jobs should be the richest. Cleaners and nurses for example.

I don't agree that most rich people grew up poor or that they are more goal-oriented. They might be more courageous pursuing opportunities and setting goals though since they know it's possible, they might not be less willing to settle low.

This is where I disagree. Luck is when a massive lorry/juggernaut comes straight at you and someone saves you right at the last second. Fortunate is when you can see that opportunity where others can't and you pursue that opportunity to become successful.

The hardest part is to realize you can become successful as we have all been brainwashed to follow everyone else.

Yes, and those workers also have dreams and goals, etc who have also become successful. The cleaning/nurse job etc is usually a stepping stone for someone to make it big.

Right now, I work in Dominos Pizza as a Delivery Driver, yet, I have many aspirations and dreams that I will pursue and become successful myself and won't stop until I get there and even when I do get there, the journey won't stop.

Anyone can become successful if they see the opportunity, you just have to realize that you can do it.

Some rich people are good people and some aren't. The problem is that those who are rich and bad people do screw over others badly. Poor people can't really screw over others like rich people can so that's where the difference is tbh

When i think about it i know that some rich people are complete B****es but there are a few that aren't.
And when i think of "poor" people i don't belive enitrly that they are poor, just lazy or ill and can't do much to get more then a couple dollars every now and then.
My family is what i consider in betweeners, we aren't rich, but we aren't poor. We can't afford the best but we don't get the worst, cause we have to work hard, but sadly my brother just ignores that fact and practically gets handed anything:facepalm: Which ends up in us losing money on something he's only used once.
But i don't really ever think about that though....So it's intresting when someone brings up the topic.:pandalove:

good or bad, no one deserves to have more money than they need to live comfortably, especially when there’s billions who struggle to survive with nothing. bill gates donates a million and sure that’s cool but to put things in perspective, that’s just his lunch money. i'm not gonna praise him for that. meanwhile, people who struggle financially donate bigger percentages of their means compared to the wealthy, they're the real unsung heroes.

Hmm this is such a weird answer.
So you are saying that donating a million is less than what people donate whatever they have just because they are financially struggling? Why does that even make sense?
Donating a million dollars can go pretty far and can also help people who are financially struggling, whereas people who are financially struggling struggle to even pay for themselves, let alone others.

I currently do 3 charities and I give what I can, but the first and foremost is that I help myself first so I can be in a better position to help others.

Even if that million is his lunch money, he's still donating a large chunk which will help the cause he's helping.

Many first gen multi- millionaires built the fortune thru a combination of events but most worked crazy hard .
not 30- 40 hours a week hard. 80+ hours for long times.
When most people say they work hard they mean they do their job and go home .
Wealth creators go well beyond that.
Delayed gratification, targeted sacrifice, better personal life choices.

what i mean is that sure, to us that's a lot of money but when 1 million is less than 0.001% of your total wealth, it's not exactly a generous donation. they can donate much much more, but most of the money just collects dust in the vaults because they want to retain their wealthy statuses. and anyway, one million is nowhere near enough to solve the social issues wealthy people claim to be so passionate about.

Every bit of donations is generous. Most people give nothing, even if they are rich although it's a fact that the rich give a lot more to charities than anyone else since they have the money to do so.

Also, if it wasn't for rich people and capitalism, there would be no jobs, so if you think about it, a rich person is paying our wages and keeping us in jobs.

How many rich people have you met personally? If you say not many, then you have no idea in what they have been through to get to where they are.

i mean, fair enough, economy is economy; money makes the world go round after all. but i have my stance on the morality of excessive wealth and you have yours.

I remember being pissed because presidential candidates had donated less money per year(like 1,600.00) than I despite them making well over 10 20x per year in salary let alone kickbacks and other bennies.

yet they will steal other peoples money to give to some thing they claim is super important.

the problem is money is power.

When you say excessive wealth i take it to mean that the money should be redistributed somehow.
Whomever makes the call on how much and to whom has insane amounts of power.

There is no fair just i steal form you to give to people who will give me even more power.
And giving stuff to people can be so corrosive to them. ofc it can do wonders but as i look at most programs they do more long term harm than good.

I will say this much if i won 100's of millions tomorrow i would make darn sure the government got as little as possible, mostly because they are incompetent by nature.
