For those of you who have ever bleached your hair, did you have any adverse reactions? Did it Burn? Any stories?

I've had mine bleached (professionally) and all I had was mild itchiness. I've heard stories from my sister and my mother when I was a child about how bleaching your hair will burn your scalp and was quite painful, but I didn't experience any pain.. and I went from darkest brown to Icy Blonde...

Bleaching never really works for me, I'm ginger and it just kinda turns my hair into a different shade of orange LOL

Bleached professionally and by myself. Both gave same results. My hair is Orange when bleached, it's just the way it's pigmented I guess. Never had issues with hair bleach.

I know what you mean, regarding the brassiness. Where I live, because of the water, to maintain the light blonde color you have to use a purple shampoo regularly.. Not sure if all waters are like that or if its just the one in my state.

Didn't use toner. Just my intended colour and it turned out perfectly. If I want to preserve the white I have to use purple shampoo as well.

but it can mess up some people's hair , and it's not neccisary but its better to dye it proffesionally

Plus it doesn't have to be expensive either. Sure you could go to a salon where it'd be 130+ usd, but there are plenty of places where you can get a full cut+color for 60 usd.

lol. I meant professionally. and it depends on what you mean by color. If you mean a box of hair dye in lieu of 40 volume then it will probably end up brassy, if you have dark hair, and then you need a toner and then rinse and repeat a few times. For me to even attempt to get what I got now at home would be going beyond $60... Factor in that having dark roots with blonde hair is considered fashionable and you could get away with only doing it 4x a year. Which isn't really that much. But I digress.

I'd be interested in what you mean when you say you did bleach+color with $10... Was it with a pre-packaged L'oreal box or something else?

my natrual hair color is a dirty blond ( with red pigments) so I usually go darker with my hair. Only time I bleached my hear was to get a red balayage so I stayed pretty safe

Nope. Just a basic bleach and Schwarzkopf neon colours. Never used a toner in my life. Also the colour wears off after a month and still looks great lol.

If it is done right and the bleach avoids severe contact with the scalp, you will be fine.
If the bleach sits on your scalp and isn't washed correctly, it can burn your skin.

It also depends on if you have a sensitive scalp.

My natural hair color is practically black and I've been bleaching it to white (silver, or any number of other colors, I've done most of them) for the better part of the past decade--if you're patient about it and lighten slowly OR aggressively condition, everything will be fine.
