Did TWICE Flop? (1 Viewer)

It's something I've seen thrown around a lot by Onces.
"The Story Begins and Like Ooh Aah were complete and utter flops."
I wasn't looking at Twice at the time but I don't necessarily think that's true.
From what I saw, they charted decently and sold a pretty fair amount.
It looked like a good debut.

No Blackpink or IZ*ONE but still good
So why do people say that they flopped hard?

Compared to their current success, they did flop. But it was a decent debut score overall. Cheer Up was their stardom launch though.

Flop based on the fact that they were the first GG of JYP after Miss A and the fact that they had the success of Sixteen to hype them
and also that they were a GG very anticipated because of all the Mix6 promotions members had

Lol this is a narrative a lot of Onces like to run with. However, TWICE "flopping" in the beginning was FAR from the truth. Sure, LOA might've not done a whole lot of flashy things like debut in the top 3 or get PAKs/CAKs and all that. However, it did spend a few weeks in the top 10 before the rise. And this rise was before CU was even released. With this rise, they spent several weeks in the top 10.

Their physical sales were pretty shit for a Big 3 GG in the beginning, sure. But again, far from "flop".

This is the thing. The last debut from JYP was Miss A and Miss A debut with a national hit. People were expecting the same output from TWICE, especially since SIXTEEN was a hit show. However, they were met with less flashy achievements and you know how Kpop fans are if you don't have INITIAL success. Nobody cares about longevity.

People nowadays have extremely high expectations with debuts, and those expectations are absolutely ridiculous. Most stans don't get that debuts such as BP and i*zone are rare cases that have a chance of 0.001% happening. Most debuts shouldn't be that successful, and that's that.

Yes, (G)I-DLE is an obvious case. They do keep rising so I am not concerned. But no debut should blast off, tbh.

Twice didn't have a debut like 2NE1 or Miss A but Like Ooh-Ahh did decently especially for a debut song where the large portion didn't go anywhere.

they "flopped" in terms of them being the next girl group in jyp after Miss A. but in terms of kpop in general, theyre debut did okay.

I remember the song not being that well liked but I also think JYP extended the promotion for Like OoH-Aah for fans. Being a fan since 16 i can say they definitely didn't flop.

Nowadays they a setting and moving the bar for girl groups so comparatively they aren't doing as well as their debut but that's pretty much expected.
