I'm sorry, I don't wanna be that person but to think of medieval Europeans, especially the peasantry whose literal goal in life were to survive, as dirty and unhygienic is just wrong. Europe had toilets, people did bathe and washed their hands before and after eating. If you're going to (literally) shit on people in the past make it informative.

@Drug I just have an overactive bladder so when the average person maybe goes once while we are out for a day, I need at least three trips to the bathroom. A little too much information but oh well Oh yes - the porta potty story… that was traumatic. So one day we were out and I asked my mom if we could stop somewhere with a bathroom because it was an emergency and I didn’t know if the next place we were going to had a bathroom. I go and it is FULL… like can’t even sit on the toilet type of full. So I hover and go because there is literally no other option. I was so grossed out that nothing else could ever compare.

Reliable cleaning staff. When I work in a building I usually see the cleaning ladies (or their wagon outside the bathroom) multiple times in a day.

That's interesting. I don't go in hotels a lot. I always thought they only cleaned once in a day. I have this prejudice that I always think that hotels and motels barely care to clean, I'm glad that I am wrong on this.

Yeah, but it does bother me if you cannot make a joke and people find the need to suddenly dig deep even when their heritage is not even linked in the slightest to my culture. I am from Europe, If there is one era in time I am the most interested in the west it is medieval times. I just did not see the link between my joking where I am from with how people lived in the medieval times. As I spoke of current times not medieval times. I also think I have the right to speak my mind of my own dang country. If I think and it's scientifically proven that it's rather nasty here in public restrooms, then that is what it is.

It doesn't sound light-hearted to call toilets medieval. But we're not going to agree. And I didn't attack you, not your morals nor your character, the middle ages are one of my interests and I tend to correct anyone whether it's a joke or not. We have different styles of communications and that's okay.

The OP spoke in a VIctorian style, so I replied back in a medieval style by using the word "peasants".
