as in only sticking to one singular concept without ever changing it or groups that mostly change up concepts every comeback?

It’s a false dilemma. It doesn’t matter if you change your concept, it’s a matter of if you can pull it off. Red Velvet? Yes absolutely. Weeekly? Not so much.

If you can pull it off, I do kind of like it since it offers variety but I’m just here for something enjoyable first and foremost.

but generally speaking it depends on the length that the group is out for an whether they are successful at it...
I mean maybe NJ should stick with the same concept since it's working
whereas for a group like Lightsum - maybe they need to change it up a bit

THIS. Plus there's a kind of senseless argument imo when the underlying sound and style is the same, it's just a matter of the clothing and mood of the songs. I prefer artists that have a distinct style where you hear them and you go "That's X." Love War and Smiley are very different concepts for Yena, but the message of exploring different types of love and her style of playing on words makes me still see Yena in both songs. Or like MX has their sexy side and their aggressive side, but MX still has a distinct underlying sound and style regardless of whether it's LOVE U or Love Killa. I knew LOVE U was Monsta X the first time I heard the song, which was driving around and it came on the radio, without the announcer having to say which group it was.

It doesn't happen so often now, but sometimes groups would do concept changes that also included a significant overhaul of their sound and then go "you just don't understand, they're ~chameleons~" and like maybe, but it's more likely that someone thinks they don't sell well enough and is trying to yank them forcibly in a different direction. Which sometimes that's the right thing to do, and sometimes it just makes the group unstable and indistinct af.

that’s fine though. Groups can have duds and bounce back from it. the problem is ist seems to have kind of given up because weeekly was practically basemented and that’s awful for maintaining any sense of momentum. And trying to regain it

eventually they'll have to change it up. but the reason why i praise NewJeans so much is because they have established a concept that's so unique they can literally do anything with it, and that's not something you can say about most groups. it's truly fascinating really.

I don’t think there’s a right answer for most people. It depends on how the songs sound and if it suit them. Both can be good, both can be eh. I have noticed nugu groups get insulted for “having no signature style” while for popular groups it’s called “being concept kings”(not exactly what I’m thinking but similar, I can’t think of the word). But with both it just depends on what sounds good at the end of the day.
