White privilege is real, White people get more opportunities and advantages in society than a non-White person. However, a White person is not at fault that they are born with White skin and live in a society that gives then benefits. We have no control over our skin color. An expert from "EXPLAINING WHITE PRIVILEGE TO A BROKE WHITE PERSON... " it states, "This is not said to make white people feel guilty about their privilege. It's not your fault you were born with white skin and experience these privileges. BUT, whether you realize it or not, you DO benefit from it, and it IS your fault if you don't maintain awareness of that fact."

One of the "White" privilege is prevalent in countries where it used to be a colony, when their masters empowered a lighter skin ethnic minority or their own migrants to a elevated position to help them control the country thus the term "white". Even when that has long passed, "white" people still commands a sense of respect especially from older generations where they used to live under the thrall of their former masters or elevated "whites" but in the new generation all that is slowing dissipating, and in the future perhaps everything will turn for the better.

My take is that it exist in some countries, but not everywhere. Like in Japan you would be still gaijin, outsider.

And in some "white" countries, even if you are white you might be minority that gets discriminated. At the moment Sweden is conducting study on how Finns got discriminated in Sweden during 1950s. They found that the discrimination involved measurements of skulls (to prove that Finnish people were lesser race, this was belief in most European countries quite long time), punishments of speaking Mäenkieli (form of Finnish) and discouragement of Finnish dna getting mixed with Swedish- they wanted to keep their DNA pool pure (this was popular belief in Europe during nationalistic period, Finland did that too and force sterilazed tons of Sami people).

Even nowadays you might get discriminated based on ur nationality and ethnicity by other whites. Though even if you are white foreigner, you might get privilege of blending in country that has white majority. Especially if you change ur name and lose ur accent. But if you are from "wrong" country and ethnicity, when people find out they might look down on you and it might be harder to get jobs etc.

I agree! White privilege does exist in SOME countries, not all.

Only for people who are racist individuals, someone who doesn't care about race is not going to take a white person who speaks and acts like a chav with little education over a black person who speaks formally and is respectable and well educated. Saying something exists is not going to help fix it as even if everyone said yeah white privilege exists the racist people making it aren't going to become any less racist.

A racist person who has gotten into a position where they can affect the lives of others through their job knows what they are doing, they do not waking up about how it can hurt someone elses feelings as it should be painfully obvious. All you can really do is focus on not being a moron yourself and just treat everyone the same unless they are an actual bad person.

I think it exists. But the whole hierarchy of the rich and poor exist too.
I know from my skin colour I was treated as bad for some jobs compared to my dad who is white.

And my mum was treated unfairly too.
so yeah I think it sucks that people still abide by it, but eh, what can you do....

you're gonna get benefits for your race, just like gender, religion or whatever else.

Like I could get many benefits for claiming an aboriginal background, which I do have.
But I don't want that recognition, it'd be nice to have all those perks that comes with being black indigenous.
but I just see that as a thing I personally accept, I don't need to announce for perks. I don't roll like that.

So privilege I guess for being aboriginal Australian means something here too.
Like a 'black privilege' as it were.
