When I was a kid snow fights were banned in school.

What are some dumb rules in your school?

Maybe not that "dumb" but in my school, we weren't allowed to go to the convenience store during recess. (but the other school was allowed)
I think we asked a teacher once about it, but I think the teacher was saying something like "because I say so".

we had a small plum tree on our playground but we weren't allowed to eat the fruit. we did anyway ofc, but if teachers saw you you'd get scolded. i thought it was a safety or insurance thing but they were fine with us climbing the tree so idk, no one ever got sick from it or anything

The problem there is that those can get ugly fast, and are a great way to bully ppl.
Best to just blanket kill it than have to eagle eye each one.

And also school doesn't want to be liable if your kid gets hit with a chunk of ice (I have seen that happen before ).

Sneaking food in class after lunch period ends

This was in High School and most of the places I went to eat is usually full. It can take me the entire lunch period to buy lunch from outside (I don't like cafeteria food). Some teachers find it distracting that you are eating in the classroom because you couldn't get lunch on time. In most cases, your food gets confiscated before getting back into school.

In my case, I was able to get to the school with food depending on who the security guard is. And my teacher would let me eat in the back while I do school work.

True, had to get stitches bc a snowball hit me in the face and there was a little stone in the snowball

In middle school, you could only go to your locker after fifth bell. I didn't think it was all that dumb (I just went along with it) until I moved states (and thus school systems) in seventh grade. My new school was waaaaaaaaaaaay more lax about that. lol

oh, and in high school, they had a zero tolerance policy about drug possession. That's not even the dumb part - the dumb part is, that one day some chick slipped a wadded-up paper towel with cigarette ash in it, into the back of my binder at lunch. My next bell teacher found out and reported me to the principal. I got a three-day suspension for "possessing" that cigarette ash, EVEN THOUGH it wasn't even mine!

my elementary+middle school has a rule that banned wearing sports club logos, band logos and any images of celebrities on any items you bring and wear to school. this was brought there by the fact that my hometown is pretty much infamous for its rivalry among the aggressive fans of our local football club and our speedway team so they didn't want kids to get violent but still it was weird. of course they didn't enforce that rule on everyone, some teachers were chill so it's not like i got punished for simply wearing a tshirt with a roxette album cover when i was 14, but there were teachers that were very serious about it like my friend's younger brother had to buy a new PE outfit because he had a real madrid logo on his current one and when my classmate owned a notebook with photos of one direction members on the covers the teacher made her rewrite the notes because it's not serious enough for school.
i thought it has gone away from the time i graduated school but nope, i checked the school's website and it's still here

omfg. I have a particularly humiliating story that relates to this. I had this rule that was enforced by my 1st grade teacher. She said that if the bathroom in the classroom was occupied we had to ask to use the bathrooms in the halls. Well, here I was, needing to go... when there was a person in the class bathroom for a long time. I couldn't ask the teacher to use the ones in the halls because we could never get up without raising our hand to ask for permission and she was talking to someone and wouldn't have seen my hand, so once the person got out of the class bathroom and I was able to go I couldn't get my pants button undone and I ended up pissing myself... So humiliating

But I hated that teacher. Every slight imperfection was followed with the threat of detention...

I just thought of another one - in my first seventh grade English class, we weren't allowed to so much as sharpen our pencils without asking. She said "it could be an excuse to cheat." Yeah, that lady was mean, mean, mean! Thankfully, the one at my new school after I moved was way nicer - in fact, she always made her class fun!

No leggings, but the weird part was tiny principal saying he got quite a show when girls were getting into the school bus at the end of the day
