Yep he was fairly open about his engagement and even talked about it on a variety show. Fans were very supportive because of it

Chen has always been the traditional type & I did indeed expect him to get married much earlier than the others.
On top of that, he doesn't have a fan-following as strong as some of the other members of EXO.
So, I'm expecting the backlash to not be of a considerable level anymore.
So far, fans have been supportive.

It's not that K-ELF don't want their idols to be married (tho some probs are like that)
They're angry cuz Sungmin didn't notify about the marriage and was in Mexico on tour at the time. He missed practices and concerts to get married and left his members behind (who didn't attend the wedding cuz they had a tour).
People always say how ELF are bad cuz they don't support the wedding and such but they forget that he left his members behind, which is a "sin" for K-ELF. Yes they overreacted but I can see why it makes them mad.
If he had notified them that he was dating and then engaged and had the wedding when the group didn't have activities, they would have been supportive.

the suddenness.
He was in Japan because they had a tour and missed practices and concerts to fly to Korea to get married. His own members didn't know until like a few weeks before. He got married and then it was announced. Also, at the time, Leeteuk was still mourning the loss of his father and grandparents, which people found selfish.
Tho there were rumors, he ignored to address them and he only told his Chinese fans whilst leaving K-ELF in the dark (and C-ELF and K-ELF have had war since their debut)
