Can we talk about the hate G-Dragon is getting right now? I know the shirt he wore was inappropriate and definitely crossed a line regarding racial sensitivity, and I can’t downplay that. It’s a serious issue that needs to be addressed. But honestly, I can’t help but feel like a big part of the blame should go to his company for letting him wear it in the first place. They have a responsibility to guide their artists and help them make better choices.

I’ve been a fan of G-Dragon for a long time, and this whole situation really bothers me. While it’s important to hold our idols accountable for their actions, I think we need to keep things in perspective. The backlash he’s facing feels extreme, and I worry it’s leading to a toxic atmosphere. It’s like we often jump on idols for the smallest things, but this feels like overkill.

Social media can amplify outrage to the point of a frenzy, with people piling on without considering the bigger picture. Yes, what he did was wrong, and it's worth discussing, but let’s not turn it into a hate campaign.

Maybe we should focus on encouraging growth instead of just tearing him down. G-Dragon made a mistake, and while he should absolutely face consequences, he also deserves a chance to learn from it and move on. It’s all about finding a balance. So, how about we stop the hate and give him the space to reflect and improve?

I saw the shirt and while it is pretty bad what it says, I can also imagine he thought of it as some sort of art/brand thing. A lot of brands have some weird art on them especially the older they are. I think in all honesty he just really liked it, since people posted pictures of him wearing the same shirt back in 2009 or something. People expect idols to google lens their outfits or anything they come into contact with. I wouldn't be hard on him about that piece of fabric, would be crazy to even think of him as racist after he is clearly a big fan of hip hop culture himself.

so is your issue the fact he's getting backlash or the fact that it might not have been him who actively choose to wear the shirt?

1. you cannot police other people's actions - if such backlash amounts to hate or death threats then I would think that crosses a line but merely getting backlash is perfectly understandable behaviour - that's just criticism and opinion no? Also this is the internet - nobody changes their opinion on things unless forced upon them - if people are already going overboard with threats and hate nothing one says is going to make it die down and the best thing to do is let time pass

2. this is GD and not some first year rookie who doesn't things - GD is one of the most famous idols in SK and within kpop circles and his influence extends beyond that. He is probably well away of rap/hip hop culture. I'm not saying that he did this deliberately but I also don't think he is completely in the dark about it either

I agree that threats and hate is the line and crossing it does seem excessive
but GD is not the first artist that is one the receiving up and he certainly won't be the last

well therein lies the issue then
obviously bigger (as in more successful) groups in bigger (more successful) companies have better resources to combat it

I mean big4 regularly posts updates on potential lawsuits and stuff to target malicious commentators however those things aren't cheap
it comes back to money - smaller (less successful) companies don't have such resources especially if their idols aren't bringing home the bacon so to speak
secondly haters are like hydra - cut off one head and two more shall take it's place lol

Yeah, but what I'm saying is in my opinion it's kinda the company's fault for letting him wear it... a staff member should have addressed it, and had him change so he doesn't get backlash...

but you don't know that...maybe it was the company's fault or maybe a stylist who didn't know any better

Imo both parties are to blame, but it's not an issue of who should bear the brunt of the blame
But I will say he deserved the criticism but not the hate
This event doesn't change my respect for GD, but both he and the company should use this event to reassess their actions in the future

I mean, I think this generation in general is very sensitive and emotionally premature so everything gets blown out into proportion. Inappropriate? Absolutely. But there's no need to cancel a man's whole career and image over it. We're all human. Obviously he didn't wear that shirt to intentionally offend anyone. He's not that kind of person and I doubt he'd jeopardize his career for it either. The company manages him and although he's a grown man capable of making his own decisions, the company should at least be proactive in ensuring their idol remains professional at all times. I feel like idols nowadays feel a great deal of pressure and stress while constantly walking on eggshells--ensuring their image remains pure. Things are vastly different now than they were 15+ years ago. *sighs*
