A tragic accident that could've easily been prevented and this woman not losing her life :(

Over my years as a firefighter and the number of traffic accidents that I've attended which involved a drunk driver has made me not even have 1 drink if I know that I have to driver later on. It honestly isn't worth the risk!

Many is the time i was driver for my friends who drink.
If only people would plan ahead just a bit.
Sure its a hassle going back to get the car the next day.
I liken dui to driving thru a neighbor hood firing a gun out the window. Sure you may not hit anyone today......

Weird thing is growing up .1 was still considered too low a limit and i remember folks fighting the drop from .15 to .1, and there are still places in the world where that is under the threshold.

There is still significant push back on dropping the national limit to .05 from .08

Yet she was at .1 and though it fine to stop in the middle land of freeway and get out of the car on the drivers side....

Personally i think they should go even harder remove any mitigating factor of impairment from voluntary abuse.

Ie fatalities are at least 2nd degree murder "Second-Degree Murder. Second-degree murder is defined as an intentional killing that was not premeditated. In some states, second-degree murder also encompasses “depraved heart murder,” which is a killing caused by a reckless disregard for human life. "

DWI is surely depraved indifference.

Felony/extreme DUI should be 1st degree.
First-degree murder Any intentional murder that is willful and premeditated with malice aforethought. Felony murder, a charge that may be filed against a defendant who is involved in a dangerous crime where a death results from the crime,[12] is typically first-degree.[13]
