So I didn't know this was a thing until I saw this when I was looking at books cause I'm supposed to be stuck in bed:llama_blush:
IMG_3578.jpeg
So in 2022 (wow) I was really (probably to an unreasonable extent tbh) upset/annoyed by that @litchasautism account thing being made ... :sicatape::llama_blush:

even though it was a troll

I was like "there would be nothing wrong with being autistic, but I'm not I just have really severe combined type ADHD (I been pretty open about that on here honestly), that's also neurodivergent":nekosweat: I was whining a lil too much

err well turns out he's right ... :wimwim:

one of the things that happened while I was gone was a psychiatrist thinks I'm autistic after we met the initial time, and she also talked to my dad about what teachers would complain about me as a child, and what I was like:llama_blush:

and to confirm her diagnosis of me being autistic as well as combined adhd ("i think you have adhd but also something else" and then I saw it was autism on the notes) she wants to observe my ASD traits more and get neuropsych tested as well

apparently my dad and "everyone" already thought I was autistic ...
at the time I was really annoyed about this because "I don't need this in my life" and neuropsych tests are hella expensive:face:

that is how I was acting about my stomach issue too "I don't need this on top of everything else":face:

and the other thought I had about medical bills is very dark (as in "logical" instead of emotional) so I'll leave it out

I'm really out of it right now so there'll definitely be more parts or I'll take forever making this thread ... SO BACK TO THE BOOKS

so like last May I was way too hyperfocused on saving all Asian American books I could find for AAPI month, over a 1000:llama_blush:

so now I will be saving all these and trying to read these, at least it's less than 200:wimwim: @Melting :fingerpoke:

they need to stop making all these months, I would save all:welp:I'll start with the ones I already have saved because they're by asian american authors:runaway::runaway:

but yes it does explain a lot and makes sense, and would have been really helpful to know years ago instead of now:pepechill: rn my main problem is my adhd so that's why it's "on top of that"

I'll say that I love reading, and started reading much earlier than average, but originally my dream job was to be an author and I can't because "I take everything literally", "can't read between the lines and see everything in black and white", "don't understand the big picture and hyperfixate on some small insignificant detail", "completely misunderstand the point and have horrible reading comprehension" "can't understand nuance or things that aren't explicitly stated", "not open minded at all, fix setted, stubborn and not flexible" "broken record" "no contextual understanding" "can't think outside of the box" "too extreme" etc. since elementary school

and english was always my favorite academic subject ...

I been writing stories since I was 5 too, got my first notebook when I was 3 ...

I was really mad about this "you can't be an author because you can't even do this", but yeah I realize I can't blame adhd for this anymore, autism makes a lot of sense but I always knew it was because I thought differently:itsokay:

Anyway, through my own effort, I think I've gotten much better, as can probably be seen here

also with understanding emotions

ofc I have trouble still but I think I've gotten quite good at metaphors (to some extent) and all, and in school people think I'm smart (for some reason) and "deep" and I would actually help others in advanced english classes, my teacher said I should be a teacher in 10th grade, I was helping my friend

but yes I definitely have trouble understanding things so please tell me so I can learn from it, if I say smth insensitive/wrong without understanding:pepechillin:

that was just cause this was about books, definitely not the only thing AT ALL, just in relation to books/English

I still want to write and will ofc! I actually need to backread a writing gc with some of my (inactive) friends on here @Juniverse @Faelix @ahparkchaeyoung

I think my spontaneity and overactive imagination, and quick wit with adhd help to some extent having both

I don't think I could write fantasy though for example, maybe some day if I try even harder

err yeah, my good friend @Shou here will make her own thread, happy autism awareness day to you too:pepeheart: I always got you

oh and also April is Arab Heritage month too, but I'm not arab so I won't be saving all books like crazy (since it's not my culture) but I would definitely save any books anyone recommends:maheart:

anticipate my next thread about this, or don't, signing off :)

I was originally gonna run away from irrational fear after making this, but now I feel weirdly calm

Happy awareness month lit :pepeheart: :pepeheart: :pepeheart: :pepeheart: :pepeheart:
Ty day:pepeheart:

tbh I actually do this irl, I say my original dream job was to be an author but I can’t because I don’t have the right skillset without explaining it’s because I’m autistic not bad at writing:llama_blush:

"don't understand the big picture and hyperfixate on some small insignificant detail",
I got told something very similar at a neuropsych evaluation, one of the things they tested for was big idea vs detail and they said I had trouble with big idea stuff. At that evaluation they also said not that I was autistic, but that when it comes to social skills I was very similar to the average autistic person. But it also wasn’t a very surprising thing, other mental health therapists and evaluators and so on expressed that I may be autistic, plus I knew my social skills weren’t at the same level as other people from my past. As for neuropsych testing I’m assuming insurance wont cover yours? For me they covered mine, which I assume made it much more reasonable for me to do. It sucks that in your situation you can’t have it done.

did you order out the books
No, there’s too many, so I’m marking them as books I want to read so I can find them even after April, because then it might be hard

I’ll read one at a time, and probably start with this one because I have it at home

my mom bought it years ago and I never read

IMG_3582.jpeg

I’ll tell you if it’s any good if you want

or maybe after I finish saving the books I can post the list here and you can see if any are available there?

one of the books on the list is by an Australian author, maybe you’d wanna read that

the girl with the dragon tattoo is popular and seems the main character is autistic

For nonfiction maybe you’ll like this:

I haven’t gone through all yet tho

Oh this was what was on my report cards every year with regards to English :llama_blush: :runaway: :runaway: :runaway: The other stuff too

like let’s say there was a story about a boy who lived in a blue house and met a wolf

my response to it (for school and standardized testing and whatnot) would be about the boys hair or his sink or something mentioned in one paragraph

I was so bad at reading comprehension the teachers taught I was dumb and “hopeless” like I’d never be able to understand stuff

edit: is there other reasons for the big idea vs detail test? Or is it mostly for checking autism and stuff

I’m trying to get the doctor to write a letter saying why she thinks I need one or smth and see if that can help me get one possibly if I’m stuck here anyway

cuz without it it wont be “official” and it would be so nice for that to be a reason when relatives are wondering why I’m so weird and talking to my parents about it (and not even just the adhd stuff):llama_blush:

like official reason:wimwim:

like official reason:wimwim:
The test checked for a bunch of stuff, I don’t necessarily know the reasonings for each task because they didn’t say. And it’s possible some tasks were checking for many things, not just one.

Ah I see:ono:

a neuropsych test for autism is considered medically necessary but if it consists of a very certain type using like purely talk and observation including history/childhood with parents and siblings

but the places themselves are expensive so depends on them, medical stuff sucks here loke getting diagnosis for these kinds of things (like at least I have a “referral” maybe) but it’s hard for ppl when they think their child is at a young age I know for sure like time consuming and expensive

Im glad with no machines ever since they used a video game to test focus in high school:runaway:

(one of the autoimmune things they’re gonna check for the stomach thing is surprisingly under the “experimental and not covered tests for autism” I didn’t even realize ppl correlated the two)

like lots of ppl with adhd have autism or dyslexia or both but I don’t think testing if someone is dyslexic would include checking if they have adhd first
