Training for yrs at SMEnt only to not debut in SNSD, fx AND Red Velvet musta been brutal for her to see others debut(tho Wikipedia has her taking a break in 2011 to continue her studies at Tisch NY, completing in 2014(?) so she kinda knew after 2009/2010/2011 she might not debut in SMEnt as an artist; Wow she's younger than BOTH Seohyun AND IRENE-wonder how well she knew them then(?) She was nvr mentioned as a trainee AFAICT (she wasn't in SMRookies before her contract ended in 2015.

I remember seeing that! It starts around 3:00 here. She mentions too that she became as good as she is because of songwriting. She was turned down for being too tall and not being very good at that time.

Ooh interesting, I also love tat while she studied in NY Tisch she went to shows n learnt beats, drops n stuff from everything from mainstream, soundcloud n undergrounds:


This probably explains why after SM dropped her without debuting her, she went on to making her own path n finding the success she has: she isn't just a single track artist-if it wasn't obvious already she really absorbed both kpop n non kpop into her work thereafter. 🤔 I dint completely think psycho was all tat different from previous rv but it was the first rv song tat hit me in the feels(or tat I felt I connected with) only monster n naughty after tat n srry not everything after tat.

Surprising me was she was born in korea but it wasn't like her parents were resident there, it was more planned out: give birth then 6 mths later return n at age 8 go to school in korea until college at NY Tisch. Reading Wikipedia I assumed her parents emigrated when Ejae was 6 mths old but no: she's of both worlds more than other kpop wannabes - don't wanna speculate if tats reason she dint debut as kpop idol like she dint fit the template/couldn't be molded to follow as others did(like Sica/Tiffany but now post-idol they hv challenging path even tho success earlier probably is not shabby either good advantage for sica/tif now) srry tangent. It expands the timeliness of Ejae's journey during college n her not debuting n ultimately it was her decision to finish college(tho SM still kept her on for 2 more yrs after tat) n her interest in being a solo artist thereafter BUT also as said above her (expanded) interest in different aspects of music creation/expression from wat SM ig formula was; extrapolating if ejae had NIT finished college + agreed to be in 3 member ballad group NOT wanting to be solo + not sticking to her interest in different musicology/creative expansion from her time in NY TISCH THEN the world wouldn't hv got the best version of Ejae tat it got rn, so I'm starting to think SM maybe dint know wat they had in Ejae n how to debut her before she went to college, but made a plan n tried to make her a SM artist after her going to college but by tat point her experience n maybe expectation/aims were too expanded n diverted from kpop/SM so I would kinda say it was both ejae/SM tat ultimately resulted in ejae training during 2003 till 2015(which still isn't only 10 yrs n in 2003 ejae wasn't exactly aged 11 unless counting from her birthday in Dec 1991) do I think SM got returns from training her/spending on ejae tat long? Hard to say but elsewhere in different context I read tat kpop investment in trainees(especially big 4 cmpny) is not guaranteed returns so idk how SM financial has ejae on its books - maybe its a wash? On one hand SM nvr got its return but did gain a songwriter (n few songs like psycho also birthday tat it otherwise wouldn't hv) n maybe more ppl might join SM as trainees in future IF they knew ejae's full story [being tat I read last yr fewer youngsters want to train/be kpop idols instead aspiring to influencers/soc med stars!]

Remember that was also arround the chaos of Red velvet , Jessica's whatever, the Taeyeon Baekho crap the exo c member leaving and LSM's wife dying.. so there was some chaos.

Oh yeah mostly I wasn't around/into kpop bk then(tho i did read abt Sica chaos on my front thru yahoo asia-tangentially I slept on snsd after 2009 mostly till 2018 but read some stuff/watched genie MV n later in 2017 tat TSS[Tiff/soo/seo] left SM n Jonghyun(forgot if I read this in real time bk then tho) n also ladies code tragedy in real time) so not super clued into kpop bk then n forgot abt SM sitch bk then till I read yr post.

ig LSM ultimately musta made decision to keep ejae in SM the whole time(or at least dint veto whoever decided not to cut ejae earlier) so kudos for decision/non decision keeping ejae in SM for so long, since I think iv previously read so many sm rookies left ard rv or later still until aespa debut(maybe sm learnt as I think there wasn't much Intel or I dint read abt much before/during/after H2H debut n thereafter [I'm still not stanning H2H but it's not like they're not my taste/style just maybe I'm all stanned out after IVE debuted [n I'm still keeping to 10 stan grps tho 4 member Everglow has me lowkey thinking I miss Mia+yiren n hoping they spark my standom w/4, like viviz with 3 has me also barely holding on since sinb n eunha r in viviz but I do miss yerin n yuju n all the variety of yerin/yuju/sinb content also umji but separately it's almost not enough, still lov em all just missing the previous quantity, maybe its just kpop fatigue tho im still interested just more casually into newer/active stuff as im more invested in the 10 in my sig, only rlly aespa n IVE r fully active rn n soon 7 yr curse might hit either/both n then i miht not be stanning any active in my sig anymore. Tat got depressing tho it started as hopeful w/ejae. Maybe its portent of my future interest in kpop, just casual once aespa/IVE reach 7 yrs. oh well, I'm getting old(-er))
