IMO, they were fun around produce 101 (both seasons) but after that it just seemed like every production company and their mother were making them. Like there was even one for wild idols or something.
also, don’t get me started on the rigging and show PDs being creepy omgggg
Overall, I’m over them tbh.

i hate them tbh, the only one i could get behind is gp999 maybe but other than that i refuse to watch them. i tried to watch produce 101 first season but there was one episode where a grown woman touches each contestant's stomach (including minors) and tells them to diet based on that which made me want to throw up. don't even get me started on the existence of my teenage girl...

I personally dislike them. I really don’t get the point in putting mostly minor trainees through all the work & pressure (and heartbreak for the ones who are eliminated) of trying to impress and get critiqued by some grown adults who probably DGAF about them and are just there for the money, only to end up in a group who are only temporary

idgi either man. like, are we gonna have wild music shows next? imagine wonyoung and sunghoon in front of a forest like: "now, introducing our next artists with their electrifying comeback-" the camera falls down, and a disclaimer comes on the screen: "broadcast was cut because a monkey lunged for the camera"

nah, sixteen wasn't one of the first, within 3rd gen you had no mercy (monsta x) and win: who is next and mix and match (winner + ikon), before that, which led to lots of people accusing jyp of jumping on to the bandwagon. and even as far as 2nd gen was concerned, there was kara project (although that aired in 2014 which was 3rd gen, kara were a 2nd gen group), and another jyp survival show, which i would call one of the first one - "hot blooded men" (2pm and 2am) all the way back in 2008.

what's worrying about mr healthy p*rn is that he produced my teenage girl. a survival show whose concept revolved around teenage girls.

since i realised i haven't talked about my feelings specifically (despite having contributed to this thread - twice!), here it is - it's kinda mixed to be honest. many of my faves (twice and fromis, most prominently) came from survival shows, but these shows obviously took a major toll on all the trainees participating. idol school especially, man, the horror stories i've heard about the show. and i've heard pentagon have explicitly told their fans to not watch the survival show they were formed on? man, that must have been brutal on them.
however,,, as i said, i do like many of the groups that have been formed on survival shows. while i wont ever get very invested in a temporary survival show group, i may like their songs, and being in a temporary (yet very well-known) group would be a boost to their careers. but,,, just how much of a toll these shows take on the idols, and how unnecessary they are (like ist's survival show. completely unnecessary imo)

If you were to ask me like 2-3 years ago I'd say that they're very fun and I love seeing them. After MNET though and seeing whatever the hell Teenage Girl or whatever it was called was, I genuinely think it needs to stop. Or at least not have THAT MANY contestants. Like Stray Kids, The Unit (the best one imo), Sixteen, those were all done well because it was a smaller group, there was even screentime, little to no evil editing.

WE NEED THOSE BACK!!! none of these "let's throw a bunch of pre-teens together and make them shake some ass and manipulate rankings for a survival show"

I refuse to follow, stan, or watch any single agency show or group . The Exception is Kara who i had mostly followed during the 2nd gen era. but i never watched a min of kara project. Also not great when your show is more remembered over a tragedy than the winner.
My feeling is you run an agency its your job to pick the kids and drop a group. Suck it up do your job.

Now tv station run is a different animal, but don't be just a front for what is really an agency run show.

Even with all the crap i tend to like the produce series and gp 999 is produce don't kid your self. the one(1) is still in the group name.
its an opportunity to get to know a bunch of folks and not just the winners.

Idol school was pretty awful to watch and just so badly done, and it blurred the lines by forcing all the girls to leave their agency. By all accounts pretty awful for the kids. let alone who knows just how real any of the results were since they were manipulating form day 1. The show being awful to watch was part of that problem with so few ppl voting it was a mess.

My teen age girl was also pretty unwatchable for me. Didn't help that the majority of the songs they covered i would never listen to . And i really tried because of Yuri and Ock Joohyun.

I am less worried about the stress since any real agency is putting at least that much stress on the trainees anyway, just less public.
Its an insanely brutal business, kids and their parents should know this from the start.
The early exposure to just how unkind the public can be is a hard wake up call.

Also less worried about the manipulation. Whom ever is putting the group together will want a functional group they can work with for the concept area they have picked out. It would be nice if they said up front that they reserve the right to make changes to the group or what the concept area was. LOL China allowed ppl to flat buy votes and still played with the group.

heck gp 999 did everything they could to salvage at least 3 non Koreans with out actually cheating that last week as they finally realized that the voting system was so poorly thought out and that the fans had played em.
