How many languages do you speak? I only speak 1

I can speak English, my country national language, my own cultural language n a fair bit of dialect not my own. About 3 or 3.5 or 2.75 altogether.

I can speak n understand conversational Cantonese(local n maybe from Hong Kong movies watching, but needing to read the subtitles still-after lo these many yrs).

In person i can n probably hv spoken with strangers off the streets of my local city (in the recent past tat i can think of ard 2~3 yrs ago) but hvg to stop n try n explain or fail a few times, in a 30 or 40 minute block of time. It helped tat we had/hv commonality of country n cultural touchstones tho our primary language was not the same. But i wouldnt want to do it often.

In local Mandarin Chinese i probably hv better fluency n vocabulary from yrs more practice/watching shows, experience talking to friends/colleagues/others but still cant read or write.

In my own dialect i am much worse n i couldnt speak much at all in it with my own grandmother when i was a teen n spoke to her in the national language here.tho i think i could speak/communicate in dialect when i was younger(between 5~9) n visited my grandparents for weeks at a stretch.

I wouldn't be too off put by that. I know someone who took high school Spanish for two years and could only speak basic greetings (e.g., Hola, Como Estas, No Hablo Espanol, etc)..
