why does it matter if the group wrote the song or not? do you also criticize a ballerina for not choreographing the show shes dancing in???? arent you elitists here for the music or smth??? as long as the art sounds good, then why should you care who wrote it????

music stans (ew) : do you think that beautiful dancers with great personalities that also happen to be amazing songwriters, among other things, are common??? you gonna fill a 7+ person group with one in a million people (and SK only has ~50 million citizens) while hundreds of other companies try and do the exact same thing???? good luck dudes

visual stans + personality stans + talent stans : lack of creative control -> less requirements for scouting -> greater chance of finding the visual/personality/talent.

An idol is eye candy with a bit more depth. The candy isn't just in visuals, but also personality and their talents.
A simple milk chocolate is simple and tasty
I am not gonna hate on the milk chocolate just bcs truffles also exist in the world.

The same way an idol who "only has visuals" is not any less loveable than an idol who is an all-rounder.
An idol who is good at acting cute and smiles sweetly to the fans is not worth any less than the idol who produces songs for their group.

I will always value more a song created even partly by the members themselves if the song is good. It doesn’t mean that I don’t love or stan groups in which the idols don’t take part in the creating process.

Artistry is important for me and writing/producing and composing skills are part of it.

Filter is a good song but I actually prefer Lie, Serenpidity or Promise which involve BTS members or Jimin himself. I find Friends superior to Filter because it’s about a personal story and Jimin really surpassed himself since he never was that involved in a song’s creating process before.

This can only go so far though, there are a lot of idols who aren’t allowed to take part in the creative process despite them wanting to. Many idols are forced to do concepts that they do not like or feel uncomfortable with because they aren’t allowed to take part in the creative process. Of course this isn’t always the case and there’s nothing wrong with not taking part in the creative process, but there is a problem in kpop when it comes to treating their idols as objects and not as musical artists.

when an artist is one in a million thats cool too but i have literally no issue with the current system..the product is good and thats all that matters too me

also, the kpop industry thrives on taking advantage of younger teens and children, making them sign contracts without providing them lawyers or even explaining it to them. the only thing that they "promise" is a shot at fame. the contracts are oftentimes written so that a normal person couldn't understand, there are literally lawyers who specialize in reading these music contracts because of how hard they are to understand. and these lawyers are expensive af to hire. kpop companies and music companies, in general, do this on purpose to try and take advantage of younger artists who are desperate for fame. I mean slave contracts were only recently outlawed (i think), there are major flaws in how manufactured the kpop industry is, making idols feel as though they are objects and not actual performers or artists is a flawed system and strategy.

like I said in my post, the contracts are extremely hard to read and understand. young children and parents who usually have no prior knowledge about this stuff are not going to understand. they'll most likely listen to what the executives of the companies tell them, which is usually a very watered down explanation that doesn't go into detail about the contracts. also, it is not a choice if there is only one option available. they should be given the choice to participate if they want to. and it is a company problem, the majority of the problems in kpop stem from the companies' lol. the reason why idols are overworked to the bone? their companies. the reasons why idols are pressured into doing things they don't want to do? their companies. the reason why idols are treated as objects? their companies.

not their fault for being an "idiot" when music executives make it seem like what they're saying is reliable. the majority of kpop companies are all the same in managing their idols, choosing another company is not a choice. many go into signing contracts thinking that they won't be screwed over like the rest because companies take advantage and manipulate them into signing. not being able to afford is a big factor but the way these companies mentally manipulate young children who don't know how to make decisions, and then also manipulating naive parents who want their children to succeed into signing contracts is another big factor as well.
