For saying the N-word in the songs they covered as trainees. I see a lot of people trying to defend them for saying it because it was 10-15 years. Like.. it doesn't matter? The fact of the matter is that they still chose to say it and sang/rapped to songs with the N-word in it. Mind you, in their documentary one of the members stated that they got to choose the songs they would cover for their monthly evaluations.

You have two members that pretty much grew up speaking English, and another member who learned enough English to know that it's a slur. I feel bad for the fans that are hurt by this and some fans just blow it off like it's nothing. I'm just disappointed in the members (except Jisoo) for this. None of them have tried to apologize and it's like the issue is being ignored. I've been a Blink since debut and I still love the members, but this is the most I've ever been disappointed from them. Especially since one of them is my ult..

Firstly I'm not defending them per se rather I'm giving context as to the "knowledge" component of the argument

is it wrong to say a word that you don't know the meaning to?
how does one attribute knowledge to someone when you are not in their shoes to feel their lived experiences?

R went to school in Oz and J in NZ

I am certainly not speaking on behalf of all Aussies but merely myself as a student in Australia and I never learned about the N word or slavery in HS - the only time I learned anything about US history was in University and that was more generally and not part of a course or degree

Who is to determine what one should or ought to know - is it simple ignorance? or arrogance? or something more severe? do we then judge someone based on things that they ought to have known because we believe they should know it. Those things that we know were shaped by our experiences and factors such as our background, social economic status, education level, culture, intelligence, societal norms and values, peer group - do we then impart that on others and say hey you should know this too. Vice versa what if others judge us for things that we don't know but they believe we ought to know?

whether BP should apologize is beyond my scope since I am neither African American nor black and thus it is not my place to ask or not ask for them to apologize

that's perfectly reasonable my friend
I don't know your background or your history or your race or nationality but those shape why you would do that

but you can also understand why others wouldn't do that no?

I wish I had your life where my biggest upset is random stuff teenagers did 15 years ago... At this point the I think the best option is to ban all versions of the N word no matter who says and in all contexts. problem solved! :thumbsupcat:

You're so ignorant that it's pathetic. Then again you're the same person who said "cultural appropriation doesn't exist" in another thread, so I'm not surprised with your response

What exactly makes me ignorant? Not agreeing with you or refusing to be angry about things that aren't currently effecting my or your life? Or is it that I know this magical appology isn't actually going to make you or anyone else feel better? It's always always the same pattern in just about everything people get upset about but I'll narrow it down to kpop.

Idol does something stupid or offensive. :pandaannoyed:

"Fans" demand appology! :pandamad::pandacop:

Idol gives appology :pandaangel:

"Fans" are pissed about appology. :pandamad::pandacop:

Idol gives another appology. :pandasad:

"Fans": IT'S NOT FUCKING ENOUGH!!!!!:pandamad:

Idol commits suicide. (Kim Sae Ron, she's the one I knew enough of to miss and still do) I won't list them all but theres a lot)

Fans: Its not my fault! :nekopout:
(Note: Cute panda emojies for effect)

My bad for being ignorant enough to believe people are capable of learning and growing without giving useless appologies no one will accept. :TechiNod:

You're acting like this isn't problem when it is. That's what makes you ignorant. Kpop fans have dealt with racism in kpop for long enough and they're getting sick of it. Whether black kpop fans accept an apology or not is up to them.

Also, don't use someone's suicide as an example for your weak argument. It's disrespectful to that person.

It's a problem (with two sides). I will always consider the feelings of both sides. Your anger is valid. Your feelings being hurt is valid. Arbitrarily just staying upset or remebering your upset over something BP did 10 or 15 years later because of something Kiss of Life did invalidates all of that.

Whether black kpop fans accept an apology or not is up to them.
Fair enough. I 100% agree with you on this.
Also, don't use someone's suicide as an example for your weak argument. It's disrespectful to that person.
Forgetting what's lilterally driving people to self terminate and allowing it to repeatedly happen over and over is even more offensive. Lives matter more than feelings. Not saying people aren't accountable but let's make sure they are accountable for their actions. Not your's or my feelings. ]

Lastly, I hope someday when we screw up (We all do. Each and every one of us will do far worse than this. Its just human nature.) We can be judged, taught, and then forgiven.) And not have someone be reminded to be mad about it 10 years later. I think that is what is flabbergasting me over this. Kiss of Life screwed up and you remembered to be upset about some 10+ years ago?! Really?! :jenniespooked:

I seriously can’t believe you
Sorry I'm such an objectionable panda. :pandanoreaction:And sonI don't get DMs from mods I'm out. Shouldn't have gotten involved anyways. Bad panda bad! :pandasad: Sorry if what I've said upset any of you but discourse makes us all better people.

it's not my apology to accept as i'm not black, but honestly i'm shocked they haven't. even if back then they didn't know they shouldn't have sung that word, there's no way they don't know it now that we're in 2025 so sweeping their ignorance under the rug is simply not a good look.

come on now, not a single k-pop celebrity has taken their own life over being held accountable for saying a racial slur. in fact when you're working in an industry that heavily profits off black culture, apologising for saying that word is the least you can do and it's disappointing to see that some people can't even hold these rich celebs to this standard. sure we all screw up, but as a public figure if the way you "screwed up" affects a big group of people then it's normal to apologise to them so you can strive towards being a better person instead of reducing it to a non-issue just because it doesn't especially affect you.

you give me too much credit my friend - I'm merely old and I can empathize somewhat with African Americans in that I too was bullied when I was young because of my race.

Not trying to equate the two things but merely explain my own experiences with regards to race and racism.

I wish BP did as well.

its not right that they don't make an apology
It hurts more and more with each usage

they need to be educated as well as found accountable
